JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Director of Student Learning, the Learning Specialist supports the Director of Student Learning in ensuring students at New Roads Upper School have the necessary accommodations to be successful in their academic program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain physical and electronic housing system for ALL students with learning plans

  • Send notices to families for updates on paperwork needed

  • Support with processing CB/ ACT accommodation requests

  • Support with special testing needs to include managing and proctoring the Student Workspace

  • Support with compliance spreadsheets

  • Support with Senior paperwork for the College Admission process and other special programs/accommodations

  • Work with DSL to compile, track, and report ongoing program evaluations

  • Teach elective support classes

  • Teach Mentorship Learning Lab class

  • Collaborate with administration regarding various discussions and decisions related to students and families

  • Work closely with administration to implement school policies and strategies for support

  • Attend student support meetings and implement specific support strategies

  • Attend departmental and faculty meetings

  • Support the Director of Student Learning in writing learning plans/minor adjustments, including on standardized tests (College Board, ACT, SAT, etc.)

  • Additional duties, such as student advising and chaperoning events, as needed

Qualifications

  • B.A. in educational psychology required

  • Ability to maintain confidential information

  • Awareness/knowledge of learning differences

  • Strong collaboration skills

  • Commitment and respect for diversity

  • Understanding of and commitment to the school's mission and goals

  • Understanding of and commitment to motivating students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning styles

  • Commitment to increasing knowledge of best practices and current research

  • Ability to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position

  • A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and energy

  • Flexibility

Pay range: $28-$50
