Our company is in an exciting growth phase where we are launching new products, expanding our team, and reaching new markets. We seek a deeply scientifically curious scientist to join a diverse, interactive, collaborative, and highly supportive antibody discovery research team. The Research Scientist, under the supervision of the VP Antibody Discovery (or Director of Research), will join our team of scientists in antibody discovery to analyze and synthesize information and data about new drug targets and antibody-related technologies. The Research Scientist will analyze scientific literature, patents, and databases to assess project risks and develop risk mitigation strategies and solutions. The assessments will contribute to evidence-based decision making about feasibility of proposed projects and partnerships as well as development of research plans and support of the execution with analysis and data interpretation.  

In addition, this role will interact with external customers and partners to understand their projects and provide scientific guidance on appropriate scope of work using Integral Molecular’s technologies and platforms.

Responsibilities 

  • Generate risk analysis for new projects by reviewing relevant internal and published data for membrane protein discovery and other targets; analyze and translate this data to generate insights and drive actions for drug discovery 

  • Design reporter and expression plasmid constructs to mitigate risks for the expression of membrane and viral proteins in support of customer projects and development of internal research priorities  

  • Design experiments and guide troubleshooting for testing reporter and expression constructs  

  • Collaborate extensively with internal and external teams to ensure discovered antibodies meet customer and internal requirements  

  • Develop and deliver scientific presentations for internal meetings, customer calls and conferences  

  • Keep abreast of new scientific/technology development related to antibody discovery, high throughput cell-based analysis platforms, and other topics by participating in scientific meetings/seminars and through regular scientific review  

  • Provide technical expertise on sales calls 

  • Teach, train, and provide guidance and support to junior team members in laboratory experiments and scientific development 

Qualifications

Education 

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Chemical or Biological Engineering, Virology or a related field 

  • Postdoctoral experience is preferred 

  • Basic knowledge in immunology or virology is desired 

 

Experience 

  • Extensive prior experience with plasmid design, construction, and lab-based execution of those designs 

  • Experience with heterologous or recombinant membrane protein expression 

  • Familiarity with flow cytometry, phage display, antibody production, and/or viral particle production  

  • Proven track record of excellent scientific judgement and sound decision-making  

  • Demonstrated ability as an individual contributor and evidence of the ability to work cooperatively within a team 

  • Creative problem-solving and analytical skills that impact project outcomes 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  

  • Experience in the biotech/pharma industry is a plus
