At the direction of, and as the assistant to the Pastor, works in collaborative leadership with other staff and volunteers in implementing the mission of St. Mary Parish in Anacortes, and St. Paul on the Swinomish Reservation. This is to be accomplished by developing, implementing and directing programs that provide Sacramental preparation to children and youth, and adults. 





Sacramental and Faith Formation Programs


  1. Serves as primary coordinator for Sacramental preparation programs: infant Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation, OCIC (Order of Christian Initiation of Children), OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) and Marriage at St. Mary & St. Paul. 
  2. Prepares, collaborates in, and teaches classes in specified areas as directed by the Pastor.

Parish Programs

  1. Assures the recruitment, training, motivation, support and evaluation of parish volunteer sacramental preparation teachers, aides and other support personnel necessary to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Sacramental Preparation Program.  Facilitates opportunities for volunteers to develop and enhance their personal faith growth.
  2. Assures parents are invited, involved, trained and supported in their children’s sacramental preparation programs in the model of Whole Family Catechesis (WFC) in collaboration with other Faith Formation staff.
  3. Ensures registration of engaged couples for pre-marital counseling, schedules pre-nuptial conferences with priest and liturgist(s), and administers the initial intake forms and FOCUS instrument as needed.

Administration and Support

  1. Collaborates with other parish staff, as directed by the pastor, in areas of common concern.
  2. Leads or attends planning meetings related to faith formation events, objectives, strategies and goals.  Corresponds with catechists and parishioners regarding the Sacramental preparation programs.
  3. Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for this ministry through regular updating, reading appropriate materials and participation at workshops and conventions.  Participates in local, regional and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
  4. Develops and administers the budget for the sacramental preparation programs, and assures the purchase and allocation of equipment and materials for these programs.
  5. In collaboration with parish staff, helps to coordinate the sacramental preparation calendar, ensures the ordering of supplies and maintains inventory.
  6. In collaboration with parish staff, ensures accurate maintenance of program records according to the Archdiocesan records retention schedule.
  7. Prepares bulletin announcements.





  1. Leads a life consistent with the Catholic faith and moral teaching.
  2. Bachelor degree BA required with preference given to applicants with under/post graduate studies in Theology.
  3. Demonstrated leadership skills, and the ability to recruit, motivate and direct volunteers.
  4. Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  5. Demonstrated organization, presentation, teamwork, technical and time management skills.
  6. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.



Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
