The Speech and Debate Program

Notre Dame competes in the Coast Forensics League in a variety of individual speech and in debate events including Parliamentary, Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Policy and Student Congress.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach students the skills required for competition in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate and Student Congress
  • Work with the Director of Speech and Debate to set practice/behavior standards required for students to enter tournaments
  • Meet with debate team twice weekly after 3:00 PM
  • Serve and coach for a minimum of 3 league and/or individual tournaments as needed
  • Keep up to date with rules, procedures and judging standards for Debate
  • Maintain detailed and accurate files
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with all internal and external contacts
  • Model and support school mission and philosophy of the speech and debate program

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two Years of College Study (AA or Bachelors preferred
  • Experience in high school speech and debate
  • Familiarity with rules and guidelines for California High School Speech Association

Terms of Employment:

  • Seasonal contract
  • Stipend for season
  • Additional pay to coach tournaments.
  • Coaching positions are not eligible for employee benefits
