Description

Seeking a Visual Media Director to join our dynamic communications team. This position reports to the Chief of Strategic Marketing and communications and is an on-campus role with some nights & weekends required.

 

About the department

The Communications Department handles internal and external communications and marketing for Thayer Academy, including online and print publications, social media, and media outreach. A central hub for the Academy’s messaging, the department interacts with and supports priorities from all constituencies on campus. You’ll be joining a team of extraordinarily collaborative, creative, detail-oriented, and down-to-earth colleagues who are dedicated to furthering Thayer Academy’s educational mission. 

 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Film and edit Thayer events and signature program pieces for use in the Academy’s marketing

  • Create promotional videos in support of Admissions, Advancement & Engagement, and Athletics departmental goals

  • Edit informational and/or educational videos for the Thayer community

  • Produce short, same-day videos for social media

  • Coordinate livestreaming at special events and webinars

  • Photograph a range of events, people, and places in support of communications and marketing needs

  • Select and edit photos for various platforms (e.g. social media, website, digital signage, marketing, brochures, magazine) in keeping with Thayer’s brand, image, and voice

  • Design basic graphics and visuals for events, marketing, signage, brochures, etc.

  • Provide layout and editing support for digital and print publications

  • Maintain and organize video and photo libraries

  • Manage photo and video equipment and studio

  • Balance photography and videography requests with priorities, schedule, and budgetary concerns in mind

  • Coordinate the freelance photographer pool for supplemental event support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 3-5 years experience in videography, photography, and graphic design 

  • Experienced in video production techniques and equipment, including multi-camera setups, audio, and lighting in the studio and in the field

  • Excellent communicator, creative thinker, and collaborator with the ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Compelling storyteller and interviewer with an ear for narrative, an eye for detail, and a heart for students and teachers

  • Creator with strong aesthetic awareness who recognizes the elements that enhance visual appeal, such as composition, color balance, lighting effects, and perspective.

  • Facility with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Workspace, and other production and productivity software

  • Experience with drones, motion graphics, and simple animations a plus

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational, multitasking, and problem solving skills, all with a good sense of humor

  • Experience working in educational settings preferred

  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds

  • Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community

  • Ability to effectively complete all required background checks

  • Able to work on campus full-time
