Position Summary:

Teacher Created Materials is a 40+ year old, award-winning educational publishing company. The Director of Publishing Operations is responsible for maintaining the department’s effectiveness and efficiency by shaping and delivering key operational strategies and processes. This leadership position is instrumental to bridging department and cross-department workflows and processes for product development, data management, business analytics, and department management, particularly as these evolve within our dynamic company and ever-changing industry.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional communication within the department and across the company through data, systems, and reporting, to ensure stakeholders are in alignment throughout product development cycle.
  • Lead the use of department tools and systems to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of scheduling and processes.
  • Leverage product data systems and reporting to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data.
  • Develop and lead team in maintaining a cohesive and effective resource management system for contact information, rates, work history, areas of specialty, etc.
  • Implement reporting tools and dashboards to support decision making and analysis.
  • Work with EVP of Content Development to maintain publication plan, project budgets, and corresponding department budget.
  • Lead the Publishing Operations team in executing project management tasks for all imprints, including tasks related to legal and financial documents, reporting, product data creation and maintenance, scheduling, post-production tasks, digital asset management and initiatives, and Custom product development.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of team and department processes.
  • Lead training of department or company staff as needed
  • Consistently demonstrate effective leadership and mentoring skills to build capacity of staff.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. in Business, Communications, Publishing, Journalism, or related field
  • 5+ years professional experience in the publishing, marketing, or advertising industry (or related experience)
  • A solid understanding of project management methodology (experience with process mapping a plus)
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Experience working with Asana, or other project management applications
  • Experience working with product data and NetSuite, or other ERP/product data systems
  • Evidence of strong leadership and management
  • Passion for analyzing, prioritizing, and resolving complex issues
  • Superior skills in the MS Office suite
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external partners/vendors
  • Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit for extended periods of time; including at a computer.
  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements for frequent use of computer keyboard and mouse.
