Position Overview

This is a regular student tutor position which will provide academic support to all currently enrolled UCO students via Peer Tutoring (PT) and/or Supplemental Instruction (SI).

The Learning Facilitator of Peer Tutoring (LF-PT) will facilitate one-on-one or small-group sessions in Math, Science, Statistics, and Writing in person and virtually to UCO students through scheduled appointments.

The Learning Facilitator of Supplemental Instruction (LF-SI) will facilitate out-of-class, in-person group sessions that supplement certain courses that qualify for BELL SI support. Ten weekly hours are allotted for this role—3 hours for attending lectures, 3 hours for session planning, 3 hours for facilitating SI sessions, and 1 hour for meetings. An instructor must submit a request on behalf of a candidate.

 

Hours per Week

  • 10 – 25 hours per week.
  • Must be able to work within a Monday – Thursday, 10:00am – 8:00pm timeframe.
  • Flexibility of schedule is dependent on student work availability.

 

College/Department Overview

The Broncho Education and Learning Lab (BELL) at UCO provides, at no additional cost, academic support in Math, Science, Statistics, and Writing to all currently enrolled students through Peer Tutoring (PT), Supplemental Instruction (SI), and other services to help them succeed academically.

 

Department Specific Job Functions

  • This position will report directly to the BELL supervisor.
  • Provide peer-facilitation support to UCO students.
  • Attend pre-semester and mid-semester training sessions.
  • Record and maintain appointment details in an organized and timely manner.
  • Promote BELL awareness via campus events, in-class presentations, etc.
  • Conduct research for, and possibly lead, academic workshops for UCO students.
  • Perform administrative, customer service, and other duties as assigned by the BELL supervisor.

 

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. Qualifications/Experience Required

  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at UCO.
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.00 or above.
  • At all times during employment, must meet the enrollment requirements as described above.
  • Have a laptop, iPad, or similar device to access the web and hold online appointments.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to facilitate Math, Science, Statistics, and/or Writing sessions.
  • Be highly organized, punctual, and detail oriented.
  • Be self-motivated to work independently and in teams.
  • Have strong oral/written communication and customer service skills.
