Description

Property/Casualty Insurance Company has a full-time position available for a Staff Accountant I. This position requires a Bachelors or Associates degree in accounting, or equivalent of 2 – 4 years accounting experience, preferably within the Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.

 

The Staff Accountant I is responsible for accounts receivable/billing processes and verifies electronic premium payments, reconciles daily and monthly reports, assists customer service and Agents with billing questions/concerns, and provides assistance in other areas of accounting.

 

This is a work from home position that requires a dependable, highly motivated, self-starter that works well independently. High-speed Internet access, home office space required. Occasional travel into the West Des Moines, IA office may be required.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Timely and accurate processing and balancing of electronic, credit card and lockbox payments.
  • Cash entry, receivables processing and coordination with outside collections.
  • Monthly and quarterly payable functions including dividend and commission processing and employee reimbursements.
  • Managing the accounting email box and responding in a timely manner to billing and other questions/concerns.
  • Reconcile and maintain balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare analysis of accounts as requested.
  • Reconciliation of daily and monthly reports.
  • Other special projects as needed.
  • Create and maintain high quality work environment, including an approved home office space.
  • Use appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department and/or customer concerns.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent data entry and keying skills are required.
  • Excellent computer and technology skills.
  • Access to dependable high-speed internet is required.
  • Home office space required.

 

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in Accounting preferred, or equivalent of 2 – 4 years accounting experience, preferably within the Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance industry.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products. Intermediate to Advanced MS Excel knowledge and proficiency required.
  • Knowledge of Property/Casualty insurance accounting is a plus.
