Applications are being accepted for a full-time Dive Safety Officer / Aquarist.

As the Dive Safety Officer, this position is responsible for coordinating all dive operations to ensure safety, animal health, and a positive guest experience as well as serving as chair of the Diving Control Board and the administrative officer of the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo dive program. As an Aquarist, this position performs work necessary to provide daily animal care for the zoo’s aquarium animals and ensures appropriate animal wellbeing and performs husbandry practices such as life support and water quality maintenance, operant conditioning, enrichment strategy, and assisting with husbandry and enclosure furnishing and life support design. This position is responsible for daily husbandry, water quality, and maintenance duties for the reef tank, shark tank, stingray exhibit, and associated holding and quarantine tanks and filtration systems.

A Bachelor’s Degree in an animal-related field, PADI/NAUI SCUBA open water certification, and one year  general diving experience operating and maintaining dive equipment/gear are required. Six months  aquarium diving experience, instructor-level First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certification, PADI/NAUI SCUBA rescue diver or higher certification, and three years experience in an aquarium or zoological setting are preferred.
