The Role: 

 

The Engineer will be the primary driver of  

• Modeling, simulation and testing renewable energy resources and controls 
• Hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation of protection and control systems using real time digital simulator 
• Interconnection impact studies for renewable power plants, Power quality for utilities and wind/solar power plants- voltage/current unbalance, flicker, voltage sag, harmonics, Fault analysis, Transient overvoltage studies such as capacitor and reactor switching, faults and clearing, line energizing, lightning, Blackstart studies such as transformer energizing, synchronization,Transformer saturation and inrush, Load flow and dynamic studies, Short-circuit analysis, Sub-synchronous Control Interaction (SSCI) 

 

The Engineer will be expected to manage, develop, champion, and enforce work processes, documentation, procedures, guidelines, schedules, priorities, and technical specifications for all projects within the assigned region. The Engineer must function as the advocate for continuous improvement and operational excellence for controls and controls-related systems and equipment. This position is nominally remote. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

 

  • Lead the design and development of control systems for utility scale renewable energy projects, including battery storage. 

  • Program and commission SEL and Rockwell controllers.  

  • Familiar with closed loop Real Power Compensation/Curtailment Algorithms and Closed loop Reactive Power/PF Compensation/Curtailment Algorithms 

  • Develop detailed design documentation including System Architecture Diagrams, Control Narratives, and Logic Diagrams. 

  • Provide technical support for Power Plant Controller. 

  • Generate project documentation including commissioning documents, operator manuals and training material. 

  • Coordinate with field technicians for on-site commissioning and installation support. 

  • Utilize diagnostic utilities to troubleshoot complex monitoring and control systems. 

  • Any other actions required by management. 

 

 

 

Requirements: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, or related. 

  • Ability to communicate with team members and business partners. 

  • 7+ years of IEC 61131-3/PLC programming experience, including structured text and function blocks.  

  • 3+ years of power plant control systems experience.  

  • Experienced with Storage and Hybrid control systems.  

  • Extensive knowledge of industrial protocols such as Modbus-TCP, DNP3, OPC-UA, IEC 61850 and ICCP. 

  • Experience with SCADA systems is a plus. 

  • Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously.  

  • Lead Continuous Improvement/Lessons Learned program. 

  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Travel, 10%
