Duties & Responsibilities:

Intake program interns engage in a variety of responsibilities under the supervision of PAWS Chicago staff. Intern responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Handling dogs and cats during intake assessments; behavior and medical evaluations.
  • Recording behavior and medical observations
  • Capturing photo and video of our animals as directed by Intake Program Manager
  • Writing copy for social media and web promotions and email communications
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of the animal file as a result of the intake process.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Passion for animals and belief in our mission to create a No Kill Chicago.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, with the ability to represent the mission, goals, policies, and core values of PAWS Chicago in a sincere and energetic manner.
  • Experience in animal behavior, handling or care is preferred.
  • Experience in social media marketing and communications a plus.
  • Ability to adapt, work collaboratively with a team, and solve problems proactively.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to a high level of customer service.
  • Basic computer skills, including e-mail and Microsoft Office.

Intern schedule:

  • PAWS Chicago requires that interns complete 12-20 hours per week over the course of a typical (3-6 month) semester for a minimum of 100 hours on the job.
  • Schedules and work accommodations will be discussed individually.
  • This position is based out of the Medical Center (3516 W. 26th Street Chicago, IL 60623)
