POSITION:       Apprentice-Construction Craft Laborer  

SUPERVISOR:    Site Superintendent 

CLASSIFICATION:   Hourly non-exempt 

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: 

We are searching for a driven, enthusiastic apprentice to join our two-year Registered Apprenticeship Program in Construction Craft Labor. The apprentice's responsibilities include learning and developing practical skills, participating in classes and workshops on and offsite, observing all health and safety codes, completing tests and assignments.  

As an Apprentice, you will be collaborating with other apprentices and attending workshops and classes where you will gain valuable knowledge from industry-recognized coursework and experienced journey workers in the craft. You will participate in learning opportunities, complete tests, assignments, and develop practical skills. Additionally, you will work within a specific department but also learn about other aspects of the industry. 

To be successful as an apprentice, you must have time management skills and be willing to fit into the existing staff structure. Outstanding apprentices are those who respond well to constructive criticism, build good relationships with colleagues, and take responsibility for their actions.  Those who want to lead and further their careers are strongly encouraged to apply. 

APPRENTICE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • On the job learning 

  • Attending workshops and participating in assigned coursework. 

  • Assisting within the relevant department, but also learning about other aspects of the company. 

  • Observing health and safety procedures. 

  • Completing required hands-on evaluations and electronic testing. 

  • Traveling to assigned job sites when required. 

  • Positively receiving feedback. 

  • Building professional relationships with colleagues and clients. 

TERM OF APPRENTICESHIP 

  • The term of the apprenticeship is two years with an on-the-job training attainment of 4,000 hours, supplemented by the minimum required 288 hours of related technical instruction and coursework.  

APPRENTICE WAGE SCHEDULE 

Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on either a percentage or a dollar amount of the current hourly journey-worker wage rate. 

 

1st Training Period 

1000 OJL Hours = 70% 

2nd Training Period 

1000 OJL Hours = 75% 

3rd Training Period 

1000 OJL Hours = 80% 

4th Training Period 

1000 OJL Hours = 85% 

If the starting wage for an apprentice exceeds the progressively increasing schedule of wages, the step-up period wage increase will not apply.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: 

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • Able to work in varying temperatures.  

  • Able to work outside. 

  • Able to interface with electronic devices (computers and tablets) in an electronic learning platform required. 

  • Able to use printed materials for classroom education required.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • The applicant must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.  

LEARNING AND TESTING: 

  • Our program will utilize NCCER for electronic learning and testing.  NCCER is recognized by the construction industry as a training, assessment, certification and career development standard for the construction and maintenance craft professional.  Apprentices in the Construction Craft Labor program will receive accredited instruction in topics to include job site and general workplace safety, site preparation and foundations, structural and mechanical assembly and installation methods, solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems, blueprints and construction drawings, construction quality control, and team building.  

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: 

  • This is a full-time hourly position with possible overtime. 

TRAVEL: 

  • Ability and willingness to travel to various job locations as required.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):   

  • Must be 18 years or older. 

  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or other high school equivalent. 

  • Must have reliable transportation. 

  • A growth mindset and responsibility for one’s actions. 

  • A desire to learn a trade as a career. 

  • Able to pass a drug screen and background check. 

OTHER 

To qualify for the apprenticeship program, applicants must either be employees of Gridworks, Inc. or employees of a contractor, subcontractor, or other entity performing construction work on a Gridworks-contracted project, and such employer must have executed an Employer Acceptance Agreement with Gridworks.
