Organization Background: 

The St. Louis Aquarium Foundation is the nonprofit partner to the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station. Our mission is to engage the community through providing access and education programs and serving as the region’s recognized voice for water stewardship. The education, volunteers, fundraising and conservation programs are managed through the Aquarium Foundation. This includes managing the Conservation & Education Center, a separate, free-admission facility at Union Station which showcases interactive water conservation/educational exhibits, and administering our H2O Friends program, which provides free Aquarium admission to under-resourced populations. 

Position Summary:

The St. Louis Aquarium Foundation is seeking enthusiastic, upbeat, conservation enthusiasts to join our team as an Educator this summer! Responsibilities include implementing education lessons and summer camp programs, supervising youth ages 6-12, and assisting with summer camp planning.

 Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Implement summer camp programming, including educational lessons, activities, crafts, and games.
  • Assist with summer camp planning.
  • Supervise youth ages 6-12 who are attending camp programs.
  • Work alongside and provide support for volunteers.
  • Assist the Education Department in other projects as requested. 

Wage: $16.00/hour

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • 2 years of more of college with majoring in a related science or education field 
  • Minimum of one year experience working with youth 

 

Critical Skills Competencies:

  • Responsibly supervise youth ensuring their safety and creating a positive experience for all
  • Detail-oriented, with strong presentation and communication skills
  • Capable of being a role model for youth and facilitating a positive educational experience for all
  • Ability to adapt and maintain flexibility in changing environments
  • Help maintain a positive work environment and work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Passion for conservation and marine biology is a plus! 

Working Conditions and Requirements of the Job

  • Requires periods of standing and walking, sometimes outdoors; lifting objects; as well as periods of sitting and working on a computer 
  • Requires the ability to work effectively, comfortably and respectfully with all ages and a variety of backgrounds, races, and nationalities
