Summary

Director of Aircraft Maintenance directs and coordinates the Flight Aircraft Maintenance department in order to help provide uniform, high-quality aircraft maintenance which meets State,Federal, and corporate regulations and guidelines.

 

Essential Functions

Principal Accountabilities

  • Provide input in the planning, budgeting, and forecasting of the Flight school’s maintenance programs in order to maintain efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Conduct ongoing review of the Flight School’s aircraft maintenance department to establish procedures and identify needed changes in policy to assure that the aircraft are maintained according to Federal Aviation Regulations and company policy
  • Develop and implement plans to reduce turnover rates in maintenance staff through the use of training programs, effective communications, and the consistent, uniform application of corporate policies and procedures
  • Analyze departmental cost and operations relative to established school and corporate objectives and department budgets to assure operation within budgetary constraints
  • Monitor and direct through the Aircfat Mechanic and Line Maintenance Supervisor scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and line support functions to assure timely production of training aircraft in support of flying schedule
  • Monitor maintenance inventory and expenditures to assure compliance with budgetary constraints
  • Oversee recovery of maintenance-downed aircraft at remote fields

Principal Challenges:

  • Developing and retaining an effective maintenance staff that supports training continuity in accordance with FAA requirements and course content
  • Establishing a harmonious working relationship between the flight maintenance department of the flight school and its students
  • Continually monitoring Flight maintenance department for adherence to corporate, FAA, and school policies and procedures in order to maintain a safe flight training program without stifling initiative
  • Identifying and incorporating changes in FAA publication and policies into company aircraft maintenance program

 

Additional Duties:

  • Supervise scheduled inspections, including 100-hour and annual inspections (if authorized)
  • Supervise maintenance and repair associated with inspections
  • Supervise major and minor repairs and alterations as part of line maintenance, heavy maintenance, and structural repair
  • Maintain and repair equipment used in the department
  • Responsible for compliance to all FARS and Spartan policies and procedures
  • Compliance with all airworthiness directives
  • Scheduler of all flight discrepancies
  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all shop equipment
  • Perform other incidental duties as may be assigned

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervises Aircraft Mechanics and Line Service personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintains a positive relationship with the interaction of employees with regard to communication, motivation, and morale.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Five (5+) years of aviation experience required
  • Airframe and Powerplant certificate required

Certifications / Licenses

  • FAA Airframe license
  • FAA Powerplant License
  • Inspection Authorization
