Job Summary 

HeartShare is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our DYNAMIC team! 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for fiscal oversight of one or more HeartShare subsidiaries. The ideal candidate for this role is expected to analyze and interpret complex financial data and ensure all accounting work is performed according to all internal and external requirements. Additionally, the person in this position must maintain orderly files for all work papers and detailed schedules, meet deadlines for the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process, and participate as needed in all internal and external fiscal meetings.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee Staff Accountants administering grants and contracts funded by various sources.
  • Prepare and submit budgets, invoices, schedules, and workpapers in accordance with funder guidelines.
  • Review and approve accounts payable vouchers for assigned programs.
  • Prepare journal entries as required.
  • Analyze general ledger and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Work with finance and program staff to address budgeting and reporting issues.
  • Review all variance reports, identify areas of concern, and recommend actions to be taken.
  • Assists in special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four year college or equivalent.
  • Minimum of at least five years nonprofit accounting experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP.
  • Previous fiscal work experience with NYC, NYS, Federal and private grants & contracts.
  • Experience preparing the NYS SSOP, NYS CFR, or Uniform Guidance (formerly A-133) reports.
  • Prior experience contributing to funder and agency audits.
  • Advanced experience in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word, accounting systems, and other common workplace software.
  • Able to provide insightful analysis of complex fiscal scenarios in a timely manner.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
