Description

Position Overview:

Assist in the marketing, communications, or sales for a department. Aid in coordinating promotional events. Provide support to senior personnel in developing marketing, communications, and/or sales plans.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Coordinates planning, strategy and implementation for the university’s social media presence, including daily posting and long-range paid and organic campaigns to engage key audiences, in support of the university’s goals and initiatives. Includes, but not limited to targeted social network initiatives, social news participation, keyword optimization, press release optimization and mobile device marketing. Works with university graphic designers and videographers and relevant software/programs to create engaging content for social media. Assists in other university communications and marketing efforts such as web content creation and editing; email blast development and editing; development of publications; proofreading, editing, and re-writing articles/news releases to ensure all content is accurate and in accordance with AP Stylebook guidelines. When needed, coordinates interviews with faculty, staff, students, alumni and other necessary parties, as well as the coordination of photo shoots for art to accompany stories. Develops and maintain contacts with university faculty and staff to stay informed of potential stories or to generate story ideas. Implements social media strategies/campaigns in relation to marketing initiatives.  Attend various university events to generate social media material. Develops marketing strategies for various clients in regard to social media and marketing campaigns. Report and escalate issues to management as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Vice President for University Communications.

Qualifications

Experience Required:

Performs administrative or manual tasks. Requires general education or vocational training and 6+ years of relevant experience in chosen field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Experience Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or other related area. One to three years experience. Familiarity with university environment. Knowledge and experience web content management systems (CMS) and social media.

Strong grammar and composition skills. Interactive, web and public relations skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills. Motivated, positive, self-starting attitude with strong work ethic.

 

Physical Demands:

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
