Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Treftz School of Business at the University of Bridgeport cordially invites applications for an instructional position in Sport Management, at the rank of assistant professor. The preferred start date for the position is August 1, 2024.

We are seeking a faculty member who is committed to teaching excellence as we expand our major in Sport Management. This role includes serving as the programs lead, advising undergraduate students, and teaching courses related to Sport Management. Faculty could have a potential teaching schedule that includes undergraduate classes offered at the main campus in Bridgeport CT and online. Those with industry experience, demonstrated teaching effectiveness, and an interest in helping shape this major are encouraged to apply.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a full course load within the school of business, specifically within the sports management program
  • To promote and further the School of Business mission.
  • Advising undergraduate students within the school of business as to course schedules, as well as other programs and careers as related to their studies at UB
  • Maintain office hours for at least six hours per week related to the two items above
  • Attending department meetings
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.

Other Functions:

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Proven teaching track record
  • Proficient in the area of Sports management

Qualifications

  • PHD (preferred), MS (required) in Business, Sports Management, or closely related discipline
  • A minimum of five years of experience working in related industry after a master’s degree
  • Knowledge of current Business & Sports Management/Sports Industry trends, as well as practices and technology in the field.
  • Demonstrated skills in teaching in traditional University classroom and on-line environments
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and interpret student learning outcome data to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to work collegially in a team environment
