Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach in all areas of building and maintaining an NCAA Division II program. This position reports to the Head Track and Field Coach.  Recruits, trains and provides guidance to members of the Track and Field team in a manner which promotes the academic, athletic and social success of athletes and is consistent with the mission and goals of the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department. All events considered.   The employee must maintain a high level of professionalism, moral and ethical character, and be a positive mentor.  This is a non-benefit part-time position.

  • Represent the University of Bridgeport and the Athletic Department in a positive manner with a high degree of integrity and quality.  

  • Promote and support the University of Bridgeport and its mission.  

  • Promote and support the University of Bridgeport Athletic Department’s program mission and goals.  

  • Assist with all aspects of the Track program; provides opportunities that challenge and support student-athletes to reach their full potential.

  • Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures of the department and the University, as well as the rules and regulations of the NCAA, East Coast Conference, CACC, and any other authorities that affect the intercollegiate athletic program.

  • Assist the head coach in planning and operation of the program which includes, but is not limited to, phone calls, emails, campus visits and off-campus recruiting.  

  • Some administrative duties may be delegated by the Head Coach such as updating CARA logs, meal money disbursement, driving university vans to practices and competitions.

  • Willingness to fundraise.

  • Supervise study halls or coordinate with academic affairs regarding study hours.  May also assist in the monitoring of student athletes’ GPA and classroom attendance.

  • Perform duties as assigned by head coach and/or Vice President of Athletics 

 

Other Functions

  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.

  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact with all levels of the university community. 

 

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.

  • Coaching and /or participation at collegiate level preferred; demonstrated ability and passion to teach and demonstrate skills of track and field.

 

Special Requirements:

  • CPR/AED Certification

  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and meet University of Bridgeport’s Driving Requirements

  • Ability to work weekdays, evenings and weekends.
