Job Purpose:
To deliver the School’s curriculum, determined by the Director, to the students enrolled in San Francisco Ballet School; to develop and nurture these students, preparing them for a professional career in dance. Transmit passion for the art form.
SFBS faculty may be assigned to teach any of the levels, pre-ballet through level 8, or adult open classes. All School faculty are expected to participate fully in the life of the School, which may include faculty meetings, attending performances and special events, and individuals may be invited to teach during the summer session as the program needs demand.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Structure and teach ballet classes following the School’s stated curriculum. This includes age- and level-appropriate classroom technical instruction as well as mentoring students in the artistic, musical and psychological demands needed for a career in ballet, while focusing on maintaining proper discipline in the studio (ballet class etiquette, dress code, etc.)
- Attends faculty meetings and participates in continuing education activities under the supervision of the Director. Participates in the ongoing daily activities of the School, this includes; interacting with faculty, staff, and pianists, and attending performances, auditions, demonstrations, lectures and other events related to the School as required.
- Prepares students for annual Showcase performance or competitions, as per the Director. Rehearses students in all aspects of performance and assures a high-quality production.
- Record and report on student attendance; relay concerns to appropriate School staff
- Monitors students’ progress on a daily basis and reports issues to School staff as needed. Formally evaluates each student up to 4 times annually and provides a written report.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned by supervisor, which may occur (with notice) outside of the regular class schedule.
