Position Overview & Job Duties: 

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is full-time, tenure-track position. 

The Department of Humanities and Philosophy seeks an enthusiastic teacher, scholar, and colleague to join us in the fall of 2024. The chosen candidate will teach interdisciplinary General Humanities: Ancient to Medieval as part of the University Core, as well as Elementary Latin, upper division courses focusing on the history and culture of the ancient Mediterranean (e.g. Bronze Age Humanities, Ancient Greek Culture, Ancient Roman Culture), with a possibility of graduate (M.A) teaching. The annual teaching load is 4/4 with optional teaching opportunities in summer.

The College of Liberal Arts currently has 113 full-time and 152 part-time faculty in 8 academic departments. The College serves the University's Core Curriculum programs and enrolls more than 2,850 undergraduate students and more than 300 graduate students in 34 undergraduate and 17 graduate majors. The Department of Humanities & Philosophy is a joint department with Humanities and Philosophy concentrations. We offer majors in Humanities, in Philosophy, and in Applied Liberal Arts, and an MA program in Liberal Studies. We offer minors in Classical Studies: Greek, Classical Studies: Latin, Humanities, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, and we contribute to several interdisciplinary minors such as Asian Studies, Film Studies, and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies

Qualifications/Experience Required: 

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor. 

Qualifications/Experience Preferred: 

Ph.D in a Humanities discipline (e.g. Classics, Archaeology, Religious Studies, History, etc.) required, with a documented ability through graduate coursework or teaching experience to use interdisciplinary methods in teaching courses that incorporate visual arts, material culture, music, literature, and ideas. An expertise in archeology is desirable but not required. Competence in a European language desired for potential departmental study tours. Experience and willingness to teach a portion of Humanities core courses online is also desirable. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Ability to perform institutional committee and service work. Position also has a research and creative activity requirement.
