Company Summary: Aeglea is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that engineers next generation human enzymes with enhanced properties and novel activity to provide solutions for diseases with unmet medical need. Aeglea recently initiated its pivotal Phase 3 PEACE trial for its lead investigational therapy, pegzilarginase, for the treatment of Arginase 1 Deficiency. In addition, Aeglea has an active pipeline of other human enzyme-based approaches for rare genetic disease, including programs for both Homocystinuria and Cystinuria, which are planned to enter clinical studies in the next year.



Position Summary: The Vice President, Corporate Development leads the company’s global strategic initiatives and manages external collaborations and transactions (in-licensing and out-licensing). Working closely with executive management, the individual shall pro-actively scout, scientifically evaluate, and champion appropriate strategic opportunities.  This individual is responsible for full management of the deal process from broad outreach and leading due diligence until successful completion of the transaction.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:

  • Create and lead execution of a detailed and comprehensive vision, strategy, and direction for Corporate Development
  • Independently leading and executing all aspects of corporate development initiatives from lead generation to close, with an emphasis on ex-US licensing, commercial partnerships, and in-licensing and out-licensing of pipeline assets
  • Serves as the expert resource and consultant to senior management in the assessment of a variety of licensing and collaboration opportunities
  • Direct the scope, timeline, budget, resources and milestones for business development projects, which may include business expansion financial and co-promotion evaluations, in- and out-licensing, and other partnering opportunities
  • Source company partnership opportunities from an extensive global network of contacts; screen, analyze and identify potential collaborations, license and acquisition opportunities from a scientific, medical, commercial and strategic perspective, develop appropriate positioning, communication and strategy
  • Prepare corporate development documents, presentations, and briefing books; prepare, evaluate and present robust financial modeling and analyses to value projects and terms;
  • Lead cross functional teams and collaborate with Research and Development (R & D), Medical Affairs, Commercial, Finance and/or other internal departments on corporate development initiatives
  • Understand and provide input on all financial analyses for future revenue projections of our unique human enzyme therapies as well as deal valuation modeling to ensure the highest value for our licenses and partnerships
  • Monitor and analyze the competitive space, consider impacts on strategic positioning
  • Communicate to the executive committee on an ongoing basis, including deal valuations, structure, and activity

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will offer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline required, Master’s degree or PhD highly preferred; Business degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) is a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in a business or corporate development in the biotech/pharma space
  • 5+ years of experience successfully implementing complex corporate development projects
  • Demonstrated track record of having closed business licenses in the biotech space


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Results-oriented, high energy self-starter with high level of personal initiative and an attitude of continuous improvement
  • Must be science and data driven; solid analytical skills and ability to apply market research concepts and methodologies to drug development decisions and product valuations
  • Demonstrated record of success in business development in a highly success driven organization
  • Hands-on experience successfully evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing a variety of large and complex licensing and/or partnership transactions
  • Solid experience/understanding of rare and ultra-rare disease therapies
  • Ability to apply a commercial view toward ensuring high potential industry value for the product
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical, modeling, and valuation skills a must
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects efficiently, with agility and independence


Work Environment

This is a high growth, fast paced, and small organization. The ability to be productive and successful in a scientifically led and data driven work environment is critical.  Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion is required, it is anticipated that this will be up to 30% of work time.
