Senior Calendar Editor
Job Details

The senior calendar editor is responsible for acquiring unique, distinctive, compelling content that aligns with AMU’s strategic direction and can be expressed primarily in calendar form, but also with potential to extend into other forms and media, such as books, greeting cards, digital products, or syndication. In addition to identifying and proposing new properties, the senior calendar editor is responsible for managing the execution of assigned titles, including high-profile licenses. This position reports to the Director of Acquisitions, Calendars, and works closely with internal associates to deliver complete and accurate files ready for production, as well as with external partners such as creators, licensors, and agents to negotiate contracts and obtain materials and approvals.

Responsibilities & Qualifications


  • Seek out, research, and suggest ideas for new calendar content and partnerships
  • Recognized licensed properties that enhance the current calendar offering and that have the potential to contribute incremental sales and profit and propose such properties in the calendar acquisition meetings
  • Prepare/request/evaluate P&Ls, communicate financial and business terms to creators and agents, negotiate terms
  • Acquire calendar rights and obtain necessary materials and approvals from creators/licensors
  • Create compelling, creative positioning title briefs, including thorough and meaningful metadata for assigned calendar titles
  • Provide editorial direction for assigned calendar titles; copyedit calendars at manuscript, typeset, mechanical, and proof stages (physical or electronic)
  • Work with design, managing editorial, and production to ensure timely and accurate completion of pre-production files
  • Participate in marketing meetings; encourage creators to promote their calendars with materials and suggestions provided by marketing and sales
  • Supervise and direct work of freelancers or editorial assistants as required
  • Lead special project(s) as needed



  • Keen editorial eye and enthusiasm for acquiring, conceptualizing, and developing content
  • Current knowledge and understanding of the book, calendar, and digital media marketplace
  • Established ability to grow networks within the publishing industry
  • Awareness of what is happening in popular culture—books, television, movies, Internet, music, etc.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and spelling; ability to write clearly and logically
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to pitch concepts clearly and concisely, engage in respectful dialogue with associates, and represent AMU externally with confidence and pride
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to interact diplomatically and successfully with licensors, authors, creators, agents, and colleagues, and to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Proactive and self-directed with ability to manage multiple projects at once to timely completion
  • Embraces change with a positive attitude
  • Computer proficiency (Apple, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Internet/social media)




  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university in a related field (e.g. English, Journalism, Publishing, etc.)
  • Minimum of six years’ experience acquiring commercially successful content for books, calendars, or related category
  • An energetic self-starter who takes initiative to secure unique and compelling content for publication
