Direct Support Professionals play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in suburban or rural communities. The primary responsibility of a Direct Support Professional is to facilitate and promote independence, self-advocacy, and decision making among the individuals they support. By assisting with personal care, promoting community inclusion, and fostering a clean and healthful living environment, a Direct Support Professional enables individuals to make life choices and build meaningful relationships.
The role involves various responsibilities and functions, including but not limited to:
Essential Functions
- Provide support with daily living activities at home and in the community, such as meal preparation, personal care, and maintaining a clean and healthy living environment.
- Provide services outlined in the Person-Centered Plan each person we support, ensuring goals are developed, implemented and progress benchmarks are being met.
- Administer medication as a trained Certified Medication Technician through the Maryland Board of Nursing and under the direction of an agency Delegating Nurse.
- Monitor and report any concerns regarding an individual’s living conditions; ensure Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) and OHCQ regulations are met for all home environments.
- Other duties as assigned.
