 This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging  in youth and relationship among youth and within families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Supervise all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Develops, plans and implements education lesson plans and daily programs for children in accordance with each child’s need, based on a method of observing and recording children’s interests and current levels of functioning.
  4. Supports social and emotional development and provides positive guidance and discipline.
  5. Supervises or orders supplies as needed and takes inventory as requested. 
  6. Maintains proper and accurate records/department files including but not limited to assessment, incident, development, conferences, etc..
  7. Report promptly and complete the necessary forms for any difficult or dangerous situation that may occur, including any difficulties or concerns from children, parents, staff or other involved parties.
  8. Present as an appropriate role model to children, parents, visitors and other staff.
  9. Attends all required training and workshops to include professional development and comply with applicable State and local laws for identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect.
  10. Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. 
  11. Works as a team member with the other education staff and parents to develop curriculum that is meaningful and meets the individual and program needs.
  12. Organize/assist with special events for parents.
  13. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training including YMCA fundraising activities. 
  14. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills and be detail orientated. 
  15. Be knowledgeable in and convey by word, action and attitude YMCA philosophies to children, parents, staff and others. 
  16. Assists with development of yearly budget.  Ensures programs operate within the budget. 
  17. Substitute in classrooms and fill-in when needed. 
  18. Assist in the development and monitoring of enrollment, payment, safety and wage guidelines for the department. 
  19. Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with the good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities. 
  20. Promote and nurture parent-child bonding and relationships. 
  21. Provide daily care individually to each infant, including but not limited to diapering at least every 2 hours or more frequent if needed and feeding on demand. 
  22. Community partnerships will be developed and enhanced through constant teamwork and communication among staff including Teacher Assistants, Head Teacher, Child Care Coordinator, Child Care Directors parents, students and community collaborations. 
  23. Provide and accept information, technology and other resources with other collaborative organizations to improve program quality and serve as a master link in our community.
