Description Overview: The professional tutor will work with individual students and groups of students to determine levels of understanding, answer questions, and help students to understand subject matter.


Job duties:
• Complete required tutor training.
• Provide tutoring services in a one-on-one and group setting.
• Help students clarify course expectations and prepare for tests.
• Share strategies for student success during tutoring sessions.
• Tidy work areas.
• Maintain electronic records.
• Assist with departmental duties and workshops as assigned (may include proctoring exams and/or assisting with front desk duties)

• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the areas related to student success: academic support, disability services, diversity and inclusion
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with database management
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the interests of historically underrepresented groups.
  • Two years of college or experience working in higher education or closely related field preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a normal office setting, in an open reception area. Travel between buildings on campus is possible; occasional weekend and evening work during can be expected.  Deadlines, disturbances of workflow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis.
