SUMMARY: The Financial Wellness Coordinator is responsible for providing advice and counsel to students, families, and the campus community in a cheerful manner. They are responsible for developing, implementing, facilitating initiatives and programs that enhance the student’s financial literacy. In addition, they are expected to maintain a thorough understanding of guidance governing Federal, state, and institutional financial assistance programs.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Create educational materials to assist the financial aid department in counseling students with financial literacy and wellness in mind.
  • Develop in-person workshops for on-campus students, webinars, and online materials to reach the entire student body. These should focus on financial literacy and wellness subjects, including budgeting, saving, credit management, and student loans.
  • Counsel current and prospective students and their families regarding financial awareness and debt management.
  • Manage debt letters and notifications.
  • Determine risk factors and provide outreach to students who may be in danger of exhausting financial aid eligibility prior to program completion.
  • Provide personalized counseling to incoming transfer students who have attended another graduate or professional program. Assist such students in creating a plan for financing their education.
  • Work closely with Doctor of Chiropractic students who have split trimesters or are placed into mixed trimesters. Coach these students to successful outcomes for financing their program. It must be done in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policy.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of a comprehensive student Financial Wellness program.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Financial Aid, Admissions, and Financial Aid staff in developing a communication strategy for incoming students. This includes developing materials, timelines, and key touchpoints to keep the students engaged while awaiting their aid offer.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Associate and/or Director of Financial Aid.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Plus at least one year’s experience in financial aid or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Member of HEFWA (Higher Education Financial Wellness Alliance).
  • Experience creating a student financial wellness program from concept to completion.
  • Documented experience in program development for medical or professional students.
  • Two years of experience in financial aid or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should:

  • Be a highly motivated, enthusiastic self-starter who can operate with a high degree of discretion and minimal oversight.
  • Able to move ideas to implementation efficiently and thoughtfully.
  • Have strong student/customer orientation, planning/organization skills, oral and written communication skills, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
  • Must be comfortable working directly with students in person and via email.
  • The ability to present information to a variety of audiences in both formal and informal settings.
  • Have intermediate math skills, including the ability to calculate interest.
  • Have a firm understanding of basic financial literacy concepts (budgeting, saving, credit, etc.)
  • Understand socio-cultural factors that shape and influence financial habits.
  • Must have an intermediate level of language skills to create, read, and write reports, procedure manuals, and educational materials.
  • Must be flexible to coordinate multiple duties at the same time.

Computer Skills: Some computer knowledge is required - Spreadsheet and Word Processing software. PowerFaids and PowerCampus experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required; however, CPFC, CEPF or CFPM certification would be considered.

Other qualifications: Ability to work occasionally on evenings or weekends.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to type on a computer and to handle papers, files, staplers, etc. Must regularly reach with hands and arms for documents and files. Must regularly talk to and hear students, staff, and other business contacts in person or on the phone. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance and to stoop or kneel to reach into cabinets for files and supplies. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move files and boxes of printed materials weighing up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to see a computer and to read forms and instructions.

The work environment in this position is generally characteristic of a normal office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate due to office machines, computers, telephones, and light traffic. Must be able to occasionally work with several conversations going on at once.
