POSITION TITLE: Finance Specialist



SALARY RANGE: $55,000 - $74,000 / Annually


Performs a variety of accounting tasks under minimum supervision. Maintains accounting records. Posts and balances ledgers. Reviews transactions for completeness, accuracy and proper authorization. Assists in preparing, adjusting, and closing journal entries. Analyze and reconcile any internal inconsistencies. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, and monthly income and expenditure reports. Also assists in preparation of audit schedules.

  • Participates in the proper accounting for budget, billing and fiscal operations.
  • Collect and review timesheets, prepare payroll, and submit benefit payments.
  • Perform day-to-day financial transactions including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Reviews financial documents prepared by others for accuracy, proper authorizations, adequate documentation, and appropriate account numbers.
  • Establishes and maintains statistical, bookkeeping and accounting control records.
  • Prepares and enters approved transfer and journal entries, assigning debits and credits to appropriate accounts in general and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Prepares and reviews trial balance, reviews and verifies cash receipts and deposit summaries.
  • Maintains financial, statistical and inventory records on an automated system or subsystem.
  • Creates, revises, and analyzes complex computer spreadsheets and reports.
  • Create monthly dashboard reports in Excel with variance explanations for board review.
  • Researches and abstracts technical data; identifies requirements and determines that professional accounting standards are maintained.
  • Provides technical assistance to Airport departments and independent auditors.
  • Interprets Airport Procurement Policy.
  • Manages Airport Finance policies and procedures.
  • Assists auditors by compiling records and explaining accounting systems and procedures.
  • Assists with technical accounting problems for other employees.
  • Performs all other work as required.
  • Works as a member of the broader Finance and Administration team, helping teammates as needed or requested.



Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential job duties. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Background Check: Employment with the Airport is contingent upon an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.

Special Requirements/Licenses:

  • Thorough technical knowledge of accounting principles and practices as applied to governmental accounting, business standards, methods and procedures, fiscal records and preparation of fiscal reports.
  • Perform responsibilities thoroughly and accurately in intense situations and solve problems.
  • Skill to interpret and apply the principles, laws, and procedures involved in financial recordkeeping and accounting functions.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with associates and other personnel.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; operate computer software and other office equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability and dexterity to enter accurate data onto standardized formats using computerized data base programs by using keyboards, 10-key skills, and calculators; ability to perform basic arithmetic computations accurately and rapidly.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Work independently and complete multiple tasks accurately and in a timely manner; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.


  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license.


Work is performed often without direct supervision.

Works directly under the Finance Manager.


This is not a supervisory position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high and precarious places and exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain maintenance duties when noise levels may be loud. Employees in this position are required to work in areas or around equipment which may meet or exceed the OSHA Hearing Conservation sound level.

This position may require work on weekends and holidays and some travel.
