The Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) is a statewide public retirement system established in 1948 to provide retirement, disability and death benefits to employees and retirees of participating Texas cities. TMRS manages $40 billion in assets for more than 925 Texas cities.
Who we are looking for:
TMRS is currently hiring a talented Portfolio Manager to join TMRS’ Private Equity team in Austin. The role will be sourcing, evaluating, managing execution processes and sponsor relationships for a global private equity portfolio. TMRS’ strategic asset allocation includes a 20% target for private equity, a portfolio in which co-investments are a priority.
The role you’ll play:
- Source, screen, and engage in due diligence on fund and direct/co-investment opportunities globally.
- Manage negotiation, execution, and monitoring of investments.
- Exercise strong investment acumen and judgement and take full responsibility for deepening external partner engagement.
- Contribute to portfolio decision-making.
- Support cross functional efforts of the investment department including policy, financial reporting, and legislative matters.
What qualifications you should have:
- Bachelor’s degree from top university in finance, economics, accounting, or related field.
- Four or more years of investment or related experience (investment banking, management consulting, direct / co-investing)
- Passion for investing, and significant experience with direct investment/coinvesting. Strong research, modeling and analytical skills.
- Proactive self-starter, able to work independently and develop a point of view.
- Willingness to travel (10-25% of time).

Compensation, benefits, and career development we offer:
- Competitive salary ranging from $175,000 to $250,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
