Position Summary: Aeglea BioTherapeutics, Inc. based in Austin, TX, is actively recruiting a Staff Accountant. This individual will be an integral member of the accounting/finance team to support our growing company.  The Staff Accountant will handle a variety of accounting operations within the company, from general ledger responsibilities, ERP management, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, and financial reporting analysis, along with other responsibilities.  Attention to detail and ability to maintain account balances, financial statements, general ledger, and reporting are all important skills this position will require.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:

  • Perform general ledger accounting for multiple entities
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and any financial discrepancies
  • Manage intercompany accounting
  • Prepare monthly journal entries
  • Ensure reporting calendar is met by working cohesively with the accounting/finance team
  • Collaborate with other departments and third-parties to facilitate the timely and accurate receipt of financial data
  • Assist with quarterly analysis and reporting of financial statements
  • Assist with maintaining the company’s ERP and other accounting systems
  • Maintain ownership and documentation of business processes and key controls for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures
  • Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
  • Support with accounting for Research and Development costs
  • Ad-hoc reporting and analysis
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will offer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance; advanced degrees will take preference
  • 2+ years of accounting experience  
  • Public audit or industry accounting experience highly preferred 


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • General ledger accounting and internal controls background
  • Proficient in monthly closing procedures and requirements
  • Prior experience working with internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of financial systems and purchase order processes
  • Proficiency in Excel (v-lookup, pivots, etc.), Word, and PowerPoint are required
  • Organizational, analytical, prioritization and problem-solving skills in an environment of high volume of projects; detail-oriented
  • Ability to work effectively, and establish and promote positive relationships
  • Ability to work alone, while capable of driving business results without significant supervision
