We are looking for a Communications Associate to join our Communications team in Los Angeles!

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Experience in communications, journalism, or related role

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

Under the guidance of the Communications Director, the Associate will contribute to the planning and execution of campaigns designed to advance the organization as a leader in Asian Pacific Islander (API) civil and legal rights which uplifts the API community and offers direct services to the most vulnerable limited-English-speaking members in Southern California. The Associate is a supportive team member in Communications who focuses on creative services by coordinating with freelance designers and agencies while also self-creating high quality materials and assisting in all aspects of media relations. The Associate will operate our email newsletter system and maintain all subscriber lists. The planning and use of our email newsletter system includes coordinating our e-news publishing calendar, drafting message text, creating visuals, and tracking analytics.

 

The Associate will also draft and review content to ensure strategic and consistent messaging within the editorial guidelines of the organization. These assets will be used for Public Relations (PR), development, programs, policy, and community outreach activities. The Associate will maintain and track core materials and visual assets for Communications, Development, and Community Engagement. The Associate will work closely with each of those units as a representative of the Communications team.

 

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

 

40% Create and maintain visual assets.

  • Design, write, and maintain:
    • Materials such as flyers, brochures, ads, videos, presentations, invitations, etc.
    • Digital assets (videos, photos, graphics, and text) for social media channels, websites, email, text, etc.
    • Media relations/PR materials (i.e., press releases, advisories, fact sheets, etc.)
  • Coordinate with freelance designers/ agencies/ filmmakers and printers and serve as a main contact to execute orders for the organization.
  • Capture and maintain files of visual assets which also include final versions of all materials.

 

40% Execute email news/marketing, digital campaigns, and media relations.

  • Plan email news campaigns in conjunction with social media postings and website changes.
  • Serve as main point person for executing all mass e-blasts and subscriber communications regarding breaking news, event announcements and organization updates.
  • Maintain press contact lists and track earned media coverage.
  • Under the direction of the Communications Director and Communications Manager, handle follow up on announcements with select press contacts and handle story development for coverage.

 

20% Other Duties as Assigned

  • Execute campaigns in close collaboration with Community Engagement.
  • Serve as a secondary Communications representative with Development.
  • Take an active role in the organization’s press events, fundraisers, and community activities.
  • Create monthly Communications report for all staff
  • Assist Communications Director and any other duties as assigned.
