Program Description:
Graham Windham’s Beacon Harlem Program is a resource full of opportunity for community members from kindergarten through adulthood. The Harlem Beacon offers a safe, joyful, academically enriching and stimulating environment for elementary and middle school children. High school students have the opportunity for enrichment, career exploration and athletics with adults experiencing community engagement, athletics, life coaching and parent groups. The Beacon partners with our host school, Mahalia Jackson PS/MS 123 and Graham’s Community School located at PS/MS 123 to assist in the in an extended academic day, to develop specific strategies to address student and family issues including absenteeism, behavior and health and wellness. In addition, the Beacon connects with community resources and the strength in community to expand offerings. During the summer, the program provides free Summer Rising camp for elementary through middle school students.
Principal Objective/Role Overview:
Under the supervision of the School Center Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for all phases of successful and safe operation of Afterschool Programming as well as adherence to the standards and polices set. In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for supervision of all program personnel, program participants and program areas.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide on-going coaching and development of staff members including formal mid-year and end-of-year evaluations for all direct reports.
- Expected to attend mandatory staff training and staff meetings throughout the year.
- Maintain a highly visible presence throughout all areas of programming.
- Assist the Director in the supervision and quality assurance of all “on-the –ground” program delivery.
- Plan and organize the daily program activities and oversee the implementation of daily schedules and lesson plans.
- Facilitate regular supervision conferences both individually and group with direct reports.
- Assist with the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of program personnel.
- Lead in the planning and execution of program events and initiatives.
- Foster meaningful relationships with program participants, staff, parents, host school staff and community stakeholders.
- Team with Director to create a positive work environment where both staff, students and families are celebrated.
- Helps to maintain records of program data including i.e. attendance, fiscal, compliance etc.
- Assist Director to prepare and submit reports around program performance data and outcomes.
- Execution of administrative tasks to include utilizing Graham Windham ordering and requisition systems.
- Responsible for facilitating Parent Advisory Board meetings monthly as well as other parent and community engagement activities.
