Animal Ortho Care currently provides products for fracture management, bracing supports, and pain management within the under-served veterinary market.  We are hiring a Fabrication Technician Assistant! 

If you have experience in O&P and/or veterinary related fields, this job could be for you. In this position, learning animal anatomy will prove invaluable for integrating O&P practices from human field into animal care. This is a fast-paced environment so executing projects in a timely fashion is critical. We are working with Plaster of Paris, so the lab site does get quite messy. 

The Fabrication Technician Assistant will support the Lead Fabricator in the fabrication of veterinary bracing and prosthetic devices. The majority of time spent will be in a fabrication lab setting with a small portion dedicated to patient interaction.  The position will require repetitive motion and routine tasks.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist with castings and fittings on patients, making notes of modifications and adjustments.
  • Assist lead fabricator in the miscellaneous laboratory tasks.
  • Assist in inventory management, including notifying operations when to restock supplies.
  • Prep cast for fabrication. 
  • Proficiently carry out tasks of filling, pulling plastic, vacuum form, and modifications.
  • Assist with mold storage and disposal of old molds.
  • Quality checks on materials, required procedures, and completed work.
  • Maintain meticulous records of patient information, device specifications, and fabrication details.
  • Ensures satisfactory cosmetic appearance, joint alignment, and appropriateness of trim lines of orthotic/prosthetic devices as per the practitioner and patient's expectations.
  • Selects componentry and materials that are appropriate for the patient's height, weight, and activity level.
  • Ensure accurate measurement and assessment of patients to create custom-fitted devices.
  • Test device for freedom of movement, alignment of parts, and stability.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of materials, techniques, and procedures.
  • Provide support in troubleshooting and resolving fabrication-related issues.
  • Take a proactive role in maintaining organization and cleanliness in the lab space by handling tasks such as trash disposal, sweeping, and ensuring a clean work environment.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations, such as utilizing appropriate PPE.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as customer care to meet customer needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned by the Lead Fabricator

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
  • ABC Registered Technician Orthotics and Prosthetics preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a fabrication technician position or related field.
  • Understanding of orthotic and prosthetic build process.
  • Ability to use constructive criticism positively for growth.
  • Must be comfortable with operating a cast saw and Trautman grinder.
  • Veterinary background is a plus.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic life, voluntary life and A&D, holiday pay, paid time off, 401k, and 401k employer match. 
  • Non-Exempt Pay Range: $40,000 - $55,000.  DOE
