Resident Advisor - Bainbridge

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Older Females Program Resident Advisor (RA) provides supportive services to 20 single female-identified youth ages 21-24 at a shelter site located in the Bronx funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development. Reporting to the Program Coordinator of the shelter site, the RA is an energetic, creative, and diligent member of a team that includes case managers and specialty support staff. RAs will be expected to participate in training and implementation activities for evidence-based and other proven models that will be utilized.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 (Responsibilities to include but are not limited to the following)

  • Youth Engagement and Program Support 

    • Directly engages, supervises, and supports youth residing at the Older Females shelter site, providing support, motivation, and encouragement when needed.

    • Ensures that the site, including youth rooms, is clean and kept in a good and safe condition.

    • Assists youth in achieving the goals of shelter: assess and address any immediate trauma experienced by the young female identified youth seeking shelter and assists clients in obtaining their goals.

    • Welcomes the young female identified youth to the site and orients them to site expectations, CHNY’s mission and principles, and child protection policies and protocols.

    • Assists young females identified youth with preparation for the day. Ensures the young female identified youth are awake and out of bed, fed, and on their way to work, school or other activities in a timely manner.

    • Cooks, or assists in the cooking, of meals for the young female identified youth. Engages with them during mealtimes and works with the young female identified youth to facilitate post-meal clean up.

    • Provides support to Case Managers as needed, including distributing appointment slips, appointment follow up, collection and filing of paperwork, file maintenance, and file compliance.

    • Maintains records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) computer system, and enters all required documentation timely.

    • Escorts young female identified youth to other agencies and services when necessary (e.g., hospitals, school visits) when feasible

    • Maintains healthy, supportive relationships with the young female identified youth, mindful of boundaries and mutual respect.

    • Leads and/or participates in recreational and holiday activities at the site and off-site trips.

    • Completes incident reports by the end of the shift, and submits to appropriate parties.

    • De-escalates crises; attends to emergencies following agency protocol.

    • Ensures safety by utilizing security training throughout their shifts including searching belongings and rooms.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education & Experience

  • High School/GED with 3 or more years of relevant work experience required. Bachelor's Degree Preferred. 

  • Experience working with at-risk/homeless young men strongly preferred; interest in working with this population required.

  • 8-hour security license required (Covenant House will provide to candidates who accept employment and do not have this licensure)

  • Driver's license preferred. Comfortability driving a 7-passenger van is a plus.

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong multi-tasking skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once required.

  • Excellent verbal, written and problem-solving abilities; willing and able to move throughout the day; and an upbeat, creative and fun demeanor required.

  • A strong focus on child protection and ensuring the safety of residents is required.

  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment where processes and protocols are being developed and refined as the program is operating.

  • Overall flexibility in work schedule required, including weekends and holidays if needed.

Hourly rate $19.23

Shift 2- 2:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Compensation

Covenant House New York offers a rich package of benefits including but not limited to full medical, vision, dental, life, and short and long-term disability insurance and other fringe benefits. Eligibility for medical benefits begins on the date of hire. PTO includes 3 weeks of vacation in the first year, 10 holidays, 13 sick days, 5 personal days, and birthday days off. Benefits include a 403b with employer contribution after 12 months. There are also multiple additional optional benefits (including additional life, disability, accident, and cancer insurance) available at significantly reduced rates. "CH is a vaccinated employer.
