Custodial Specialist I

PURPOSE OF POSITION

As a member of the Facilities Department, the Custodial Specialist primary purpose is to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable facility for our youth, staff, and our guests by successfully performing the day-to-day housekeeping activities assigned at the 41st location and CHNYs Bronx locations.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

  • Perform day-to-day housekeeping activities as assigned.
  • Perform regular cleaning of the facility, including but not limited to floor care (vacuuming, polishing, buffing, waxing, stripping, and disinfecting), residential units (rooms, common space, offices, bathrooms) etc.
  • Perform daily housekeeping services for the facility by communicating with the staff in those areas about when those routine services are needed i.e. cleaning assignments in all common areas, Office/workstations, recreational areas etc.
  • Report all accidents and/or safety concerns to your supervisor during the shift in which they occur.
  • Attend and/or participate in trainings and in-services offered, especially the mandatory sessions.
  • Practice established infectious control protocols, and universal precautions while performing tasks.
  • Practice proper chemical handling techniques including but not limited to the policies governing the use of labels and MSDS's.
  • Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc. to include but not limited to sweeping, shoveling snow, spreading ice melt and removal of garbage.
  • Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical.
  • Maintain adequate supply or inventory levels, and reporting inventory needs in advance.
  • Report any need for maintenance repairs to your supervisor immediately.
  • Follow all established safety procedures while performing tasks.
  • Ensure that work areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies etc. are properly stored before leaving areas for breaks, meal time and end of day.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • At least one year of housekeeping experience.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Must possess strong time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Working knowledge of overall safety precautions in regard to proper usage, storage, and disposal of products/equipment.
  • Ability to handle physical labor for at least 8 hours per day.
  • Exhibits strong customer service skills.
  • Dedicated to the mission of Covenant House.

Compensation

Covenant House New York offers a rich package of benefits including but not limited to full medical, vision, dental, life and short and long-term disability insurance and other fringe benefits. Eligibility for medical benefits begins on the date of hire. PTO includes 3 weeks of vacation in the first year, 10 holidays, 13 sick days, 5 personal days and birthday days off. Benefits include a 403b with employer contribution after 12 months.
