Director of Volunteer Recruitment and Partnerships

Reports to: Managing Director

Job Summary

The Director of Volunteer Recruitment and Partnerships is responsible for leading a team that executes Thread’s Volunteer Recruitment Strategy. This role both identifies and engages prospective community partners and develops/refines volunteer recruitment systems to maximize wider community movement to join the Thread community. The Director leads a team of Partnerships and Recruitment Managers. The Director develops the volunteer recruitment strategy and leads volunteer recruiting efforts. The Director coaches for performance and receives execution support from their team. The Director is also responsible for managing relationships with designated contacts at community-based organizations, universities, corporations and other organizations that provide large numbers of Thread volunteers and developing new relationships with organizations based on Thread’s resource needs. The Director assists their Partnerships and Recruitment Managers in recruiting new volunteers by setting up key relationships, events, and opportunities to share Thread. The Director develops systems and strategies to increase efficiency, secure higher conversion rates and deepen the evaluation, feedback loops and usage of evaluative data for continuous improvement across the system design.

Key Responsibilities

Partnerships and Collaborations

  • Manage relationships with designated contacts at established resource hubs - universities, corporations, and organizations - that provide large numbers of volunteers or services to Thread
  • Cultivate new relationships with organizations based on Thread’s resource needs
  • Spread awareness of Thread using, but not limited to, marketing materials, events, meetings with stakeholders, etc.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Thread, engaging in high level conversations and presentations which elevate the exposure of the organization

  • Update Managing Director on progress toward recruitment targets and tactics to meet and exceed goals

Volunteer and Resource Recruitment

  • In partnership with the leadership and recruitment teams, deliver on Thread’s overarching annual volunteer recruitment strategy; ensuring all volunteers are sourced and onboarded efficiently and effectively in accordance with Thread’s strategic plan, organizational needs and mission
  • Develop quarterly recruitment plans for regional geographic portfolios, in tandem with team members
  • Use key relationships and build new relationships to create recruitment opportunities
  • Collaborate to mobilize prospective volunteers to general recruitment activities and info sessions
  • Codify recruiting strategies; identifying challenges and adjusting as needed
  • Ensure presentation of a recruiting message that is consistent with other Thread initiatives and clearly communicates the commitment and time requirements, as well as the benefits
  • Engage in cross-functional coordination and Agile processing with other lanes

Systems & Processes

  • Build, maintain and/or evolve team wide systems and processes in order to track data, efficiently get prospective volunteers through the onboarding process, maximize conversion rates and manage for changes throughout the year
  • Coordinate with the Data and IT Team to ensure accurate and effective representation and tracking of data
  • Regularly review the priorities and plan with the Managing Director
  • Manage and monitor key data trends to deliver improving conversion of prospective volunteers through the on-boarding process
  • Support with the interpretation of data and use results to improve processes over time
  • Own system-driven coordination around volunteer recruitment timelines & alignment with volunteer leadership recruitment
  • Own and deliver the systems-driven portion of the awareness strategy, tools and processes for current and potential hubs

Coaching and Development

  • Develop and retain high-performing direct reports
  • Build a positive relationship with direct reports and develop, lead and evaluate relevant, individualized and meaningful one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Empower, motivate, and coach direct reports, serving as a thought partner, providing in-the-moment feedback while being responsive and empathetic to needs and concerns
  • Instill a sense of accountability in direct reports by modeling transparency and oversight of individual and organization performance standards
  • Monitor direct reports’ progress over time, with a focus on the deltas for both personal and professional growth and development
  • Sustain direct reports’ engagement and effort by demonstrating momentum, providing clear direction, guiding them through the process and leading them to next steps

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in related field
  • Minimum 3 years in a management position or equivalent
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Thread’s students and volunteers
  • Demonstrated experience delivering and/or exceeding individual, departmental and organizational metrics, targets and goals
  • Experience building positive relationships with volunteers and community partners from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • Strong candidates would possess the following attributes: excellent communication and interpersonal skills, positive attitude, self-motivated, ability to empower youth and volunteers
  • Able to interact effectively with staff and external partners
  • Familiarity with social service setting and Baltimore community resources preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex environment and manage multiple processes and tasks simultaneously
  • Prior non-profit experience or knowledge preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficiencies with technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, including Excel) and willingness to adapt to new technologies
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Willingness to work unusual hours to accommodate for the demands of the position
  • Ability to manage projects, organize and complete complex tasks and prioritize multiple assignments and deliver on a timely basis
