Under the supervision of the AVP of Residential Services, the Area Director will be responsible for providing clinical and administrative supervision to residential support staff serving formerly homeless individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness. The Area Director, in conjunction with the AVP/VP/SVP, will be monitoring the appropriateness and quality of the standards of client care, ensuring compliance with agency and funders’ policies, procedures and program eligibility requirements. The Area Director will be providing crisis intervention to clients in distress, attending case conferences for clients receiving services from community providers or hospitalized, and establishing and maintaining good relationships with neighbors, community organizations and leaders, and other providers.

 

Essential Position Functions:

  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision to on-site residential managers and oversight of residential support staff serving formerly homeless individuals diagnosed with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders who are living in supported housing programs throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn.
  • Monitor the appropriateness and quality of the standards of client care, ensuring compliance with agency and funders’ policies, procedures, and program eligibility requirements.
  • Provide direct crisis intervention to clients in distress, as needed, as well as training to on-site staff.
  • Develop relationships and communicate with other behavioral/medical providers serving our agency’s residents; establish and maintain good relationships with neighbors, community organizations, and local leaders. 
  • Attend case conferences for residents who are receiving services from community providers or are hospitalized.
  • Responsible for the administrative operation of programs, including frequent work with other internal agency departments such as finance, human resources, information systems, etc.
  • Act as primary liaison with the residential intake department and participate in assessment interviews with prospective clients of the housing programs, ascertaining their ability to reside safely in the community.
  • Supervise personnel activities for residential program staff, including recruiting/hiring, shift scheduling, conducting staff meetings and training, completing performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and labor/management issues.
  • Actively participate in division and agency-wide staff meetings, clinical treatment meetings, and training.
  • Available for 24-hour on-call emergencies. 
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in the mental health field. 
  • Supervisory experience 
  • Clinical experience with chronically homeless and/or mentally ill adults.
  • Knowledgable in OMH/DOHMH policies
