Description

The City of Covington is currently acccepting applications for the seasonal positions all throughout the Public Works Department.

SUMMARY

This is a non-skilled position assisting in the maintenance of city owned utilities, streets, parks, and facilities.

Works under supervisory control and guidance of the Public Improvements Director and/or Division Supervisors within well established procedures. Assignments are received in the form of oral instruction or work orders and rough notes. Work is reviewed for quality and timeliness of completed projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Engages in a wide variety of tasks such as assisting in the maintenance and repair of city owned streets, parks, property, grounds and facilities.

Performs other duties as required by designated supervisors.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers, and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight, measuring, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of material commonly used in construction, maintenance and repair activities as related to assigned areas.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety standards and practices applicable to work being done.
  • Good knowledge of the utilization and care of materials and equipment used.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
