Role:

The Instructional Coach is pivotal in enhancing student achievement by building teacher capacity and deepening their understanding of instructional practices aligned with ITAVLA, Common Core standards, and data-driven instruction. As lifelong learners, instructional coaches model continuous improvement and go above and beyond to ensure student success.

Instructional coaches are integral in promoting reflective practices, providing guidance and structure where necessary, and fostering a collaborative environment focused on strengths and shared concerns. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms by modeling effective teaching practices, co-planning, co-teaching, and offering constructive feedback to teachers.

With a passion for education reform and leadership, instructional coaches demonstrate a commitment to driving positive change and supporting teachers in delivering the best possible education for students.

 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Support the instructional development of all teachers by helping them understand the CCSS curriculum and varied assessments, the Framework for Teaching, and data analysis.  
  • Build strong relationships with teachers and administrators.
  • Provide direction and coordination for teaching the curriculum in a way that is consistent with ITAVLA’s initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.  
  • Assist teachers in understanding ITAVLA’s mission and core values.  
  • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc., to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources.  
  • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.  
  • Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.  
  • Support teachers by sharing a variety of instructional strategies and processes during planning sessions.
  • Informally observe lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.  
  • Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through various professional development-targeted topics and designs.  
  • Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.  
  • Contribute to developing systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.  
  • Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.  
  • Attend professional training sessions.

Qualifications

Required Education & Training 

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with a demonstrated commitment to social justice education.
  • Prior experience in elementary education, including teaching and administrative roles.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in improving student achievement and fostering a positive school culture.
  • Deep understanding of social justice principles and their application in education.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends, research-based instructional practices, and assessment strategies.
  • Strong ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, fostering a professional community of adult learners.
  • Proven ability to use student-level data to inform and guide instructional decisions.
