Program Coordinator

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Older Females Shelter Program Coordinator oversees the 24/7 day-to-day operations of a Shelter site funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development that houses 20 single young females, aged 21-24.  Reporting to the Director of Youth Shelter, the Coordinator is a leader of a team that includes Case Managers and Resident Advisors (who also have cooking and security responsibilities).  Overall, the Coordinator will lead their team to achieve the goals of the Shelter program: assess and address any immediate trauma experienced by the young female seeking shelter, assist the young female with their individual goals, and ensure that the site embraces a culture of safety and is well-maintained

Additionally, this position requires independent judgment and proactivity, as the Coordinator will be working within a newly opened, stand-alone site.  Flexibility, a willingness to be available by email or phone in off-hours, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are critical to successfully fulfilling the requirements of this position. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 (Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following)

Program Design and Implementation

  • Assists the Director of Shelter and other senior staff in the evolution of the Older Females program design including but not limited to: refining program operations as needed, collaborating with performance measurement and compliance staff to determine programmatic goals and metrics for the program; assisting in refining a program manual and policies to meet the specific needs of the site; and determining staffing and shift structures for the site.

  • Collaborates with operations and facilities leadership on the final physical development of the site and move-in of staff, youth, and furniture.

Management and Compliance

  • Work closely with the Child Protection, Program Compliance and Data Systems teams to ensure site compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, and manage program metrics.

  • Work closely with dedicated Facilities and Housekeeping staff to ensure the building is well-maintained. 

  • Ensures high-quality day-to-day operations of the Older Female Shelter program within the site.

  • Ensures the hiring and training of all staff within the siSupervises and develops a program team with a strong sense of accountability for achieving positive outcomes and complying with CHNY policies and other entities' regulations and requirements.

  • Ensures programmatic compliance with regulatory and other requirements. Ensures and/or conducts dry audits of programs and takes a lead role in live audits with funders and other regulatory bodies.

  • Oversees staff scheduling for the site, maintains program census and ensures that staff to youth ratio is met at all times.

  • Oversees and implements evidence-based models and other proven practices, and identifies and meets the training needs of the staff.

  • Collaborates with supervisors of specialty staff to ensure staff is receiving appropriate supervision and the needs of clients are being met.

  • Effectively utilizes data and information systems to evaluate programs and inform decision making and development of performance strategies.

  • Assesses incidents, reviews the appropriateness of incident management, and ensures that all protocols are followed.

  • Ensures that all child protection policies and processes are followed with complete accuracy and that the culture of the site focuses on child protection.

  • Ensures that all case files (electronic and paper) are accurate, comprehensive and up to date for all youth.

  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders. 

Leadership and Coaching

  • Manages the performance evaluation and professional development of a team of professional staff.

  • Serves as a champion of new initiatives and evidence-based models that are implemented within the program site and lead their implementation with the staff.

  • Embraces a data-driven culture that is outcomes-oriented and creatively responsive to programmatic challenges.

  • Promotes a healthy, inclusive and equitable organizational culture and a thriving, engaged staff.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.

  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-07 and S-95 certifications preferred upon hire but required within 60 days of hired

  • Experience working with diverse groups.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

 

Knowledge/Skills

  • Must have knowledge of human service delivery systems, residential care and resources for the youth population.

  • Must possess strong multi-tasking skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once.

  • Excellent collaborative and organizational abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range $63k to $65k

 

Compensation

Covenant House New York offers a rich package of benefits including but not limited to full medical, vision, dental, life and short and long-term disability insurance and other fringe benefits. Eligibility for medical benefits begins on the date of hire. PTO includes 3 weeks of vacation in the first year, 10 holidays, 13 sick days, 5 personal days and birthday days off. Benefits include a 403b with employer contribution after 12 months. There are also multiple additional optional benefits (including additional life, disability, accident and cancer insurance) available at significantly reduced rates.
