What are we looking for in a Crime Victim Advocate?

Crime Victim Advocates are part of our Aspen Victim Services program and provide supportive services to families and individuals who have been impacted directly by violence and other crimes. Crime Victim Advocates support clients as they progress through the legal system, providing advocacy-based counseling and referrals in a sensitive and supportive manner. Advocates also facilitate group sessions, assist with training & mentoring volunteers, and provide presentations & trainings to community partners. Consultation with law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, and victim witnesses is part of this position, so a collaborative attitude is a must. Crime Victim Advocates will need to have exceptional communication skills, feel comfortable working with those who have experienced trauma, and be committed to encouraging and empowering others. This position is based in our Sunnyside office, but may also provide services in Yakima on occasion. The schedule for this role is Monday-Friday day shift, with no on-call responsibilities. The ability to fluently speak, read, and write both English and Spanish is required.

Crime Victim Advocate duties may include:

  • providing information, supportive counseling, and referrals to victims of violence and other crimes
  • assisting clients through the criminal justice system by providing help with forms, procedures, transportation, and support during court appearances
  • coordinating and consulting with community legal entities, including law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, and victim witness assistants
  • facilitating support groups with Aspen clients
  • providing education and training about the Aspen program to community members and organizations
  • maintaining accurate documentation and data collection 


  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field
  • Must complete or have already completed Core Training provided by Aspen
  • Bilingual English & Spanish preferred
  • Driver's license and vehicle liability insurance
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide documentation upon hire or be approved for a qualified medical or religious exemption prior to starting work
