JOB SUMMARY: The Day Camp Counselor is a seasonal position working directly under the supervision of the Camp Site Director. This is an at-will position. Primary duties include:
- Supervise a group of 10-15 children, however still responsible for all participants in the camp.
- Take head counts of children after transitioning to each new activity and routinely during the day.
- Prepare for and actively participate in daily activities alongside campers.
- Meet and greet parents and campers upon arrival and departure.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents and staff to resolve conflicts.
- Assist with transitioning campers to designated areas in a timely manner.
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation when necessary.
- Complete accident/incident reports in a timely manner and turn it in to the site director.
- Attend parent/camper meetings as needed.
- Monitor behavior conduct of campers.
- Incorporate Behavior Management strategies when needed.
- Be fair, consistent, and use appropriate and positive discipline with program participants.
- Build relationships with all campers by showing compassion, empathy and understanding.
- Provide an inclusive environment for all campers.
- Report to work, staff meeting, and scheduled activities on time.
- Notify Site Director of any concerns of children's health or safety.
- Exhibit quality leadership and be a good role model.
- Follow and enforce all Rolling Meadows Park District general rules, policies and safety procedures.
- Attend all required trainings.
- Maintain cleanliness of all facilities used and take care of all equipment and/or supplies used.
- Wear a staff shirt, gym shoes and appropriate camp attire every day.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must be at least 16 years of age and should have:
- Excellent skills and experience supervising children.
- Be reliable, show initiative, possess flexibility, and open to constructive criticism.
- Possess the knowledge and skills of planning, organizing and leading activities.
- Able to recognize behavioral concerns and help foster them into a positive experience.
- Able to communicate with parents, children and co-workers and to respond tactfully to their concerns.
- Able to complete camp training, CPR certification, and any other required trainings.
SCHEDULE & PAY:
This is a part-time, seasonal summer position. Schedule includes nine consecutive weeks during the summer, working hours are 8:30am-4pm at Community Center or Teen Center. Hiring range starts at $14.75 - $16.00 per hour, dependent upon qualifications. Plus applicable facility and program discounts.
