Position Summary:

The Procurement Specialist is responsible for supporting the Procurement and Outsourcing Manager with the contracting process from initiation through invoicing and goods receipt, including negotiation, process initiation, ensuring legal involvement and alignment, finalizing signatures, ensuring proper information is on legal and financial paperwork, uploading fully executed contracts, and creation and submission of purchase orders.

Position requires familiarity with contracts and budgets, and this position will work closely with project managers, accounting, legal and finance teams to support Aeglea programs.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:

  • Ensures compliance with Procurement policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with Procurement & Outsourcing Manager and stakeholders to analyze and optimize purchasing activities.
  • Procure goods, materials and services on favorable terms with appropriate lead times
  • Assist with comparing competitive bids
  • Assists with managing the RFx  (RFI, RFP, RFQ) process, tabulating and analyzing proposals
  • Assists with the management of contracts and expiration dates
  • Actively participates in supplier performance reviews
  •  Assists in contacting Suppliers or collaborators for clarifications
  • Maintains documentation for procurement process
  • Assists in the preparation of procurement and materials management reports
  • Liaises with key company employees to determine their product and service needs
  • Monitors business trends and product availability to pay the best price for company goods and services without sacrificing quality or delivery times
  • Nurtures relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best prices for company
  • Identifies and researches potential new suppliers, products and services to meet company's goals
  • Assists with assessing total costs of company purchases in collaboration with Finance
  • Demonstrates consistency and utilizes clear judgment
  • Demonstrates consistent, effective and efficient written and oral communications skills
  • Expresses ideas, exercises sound judgment and effectively listens
  • Complies with established company policies and procedures and utilizes established systems and tools
  • Develops and maintains an orderly and efficient approach to complete assignments
  • Applies attention to detail and maintains quality of work products
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will offer:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Biology, Applied Science, or a Related Field
  • Purchase to Pay knowledge and experience preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in Procurement.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology field.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, etc.
  • Ability to analyze data and make sound judgement based on findings.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Strong influencing skills, initiating and building relationships
  • Knowledge of Clinical Operations procurement, project management, and experience as a Procurement Clerk or Junior Buyer
  • Ability to prioritize task own your own or with little feedback and direction
  • Proficient at managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously


Work Environment:

This is a high growth, fast paced small organization. The ability to be productive and successful in an intense work environment is critical. Well lit, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation. Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion is required, it is anticipated that this will be less than 10% of work time.
