The Archbishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ’s mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Archbishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people).  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.  Each position employed in the Archdiocese helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.

 

 

I.    POSITION PURPOSE

 

      To shepherd middle and high school-aged young people toward becoming joyous missionary disciples of Jesus.

 

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Recruit, train, deploy, and support teams of volunteers who share responsibility for youth ministry at the parish.
  2. Evangelize and catechize middle- and high-school youth through once-a-week youth groups and other opportunities such as retreats, mission trips, and conferences.
  3. Fundraise for and manage the youth ministry budget, working especially to help open opportunities to families with fewer financial resources. 
  4. Assist with parish sacramental preparation, especially Confirmation and occasionally Christian Initiation (OCIA). 
  5. Maintain a database with all necessary information for program and parish youth and their families (in coordination with the Faith Formation Assistant).
  6. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Primary: 

  • Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  • Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
  • Love of and skill in working with middle and high school-aged youth, Catholic and non-Catholic
  • Passion and skill in the work of evangelization and catechesis, especially the former

Experience:

  • Some experience, paid or volunteer, working with youth in a parish or ministerial context preferred.
  • Able to use Microsoft Suite, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Personal or professional experience with immigration, immigrant communities, and multicultural contexts preferred.

Other Elements:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish desirable, but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines and with multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people, including both internal and external stakeholders (for example, management, staff and vendors).
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the Catholic Church in Western Washington; active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Church, highly preferred

 

 

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
