Organization Overview: The Goddard Riverside Community Center (Goddard Riverside) and the Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) are well-established Manhattan community-based agencies that support services to approximately 30,000 New Yorkers. Program Description: #DegreesNYC is a collective action initiative supported by Goddard Riverside Options Center, aiming to promote educational equity throughout NYC by working with youth leaders and education professionals. Through coalition building, collective action, and data, #DegreesNYC works to reimagine education and promote student-ready campuses.

 

The Opportunity: The Data and Research Coordinator has the opportunity to make real changes to systems in NYC that directly impact K-16 students and how they navigate pathways. Working with young people from across the city, the Data and Research Coordinator will lead the development and execution of youth-led advocacy for education equity in NYC. The Data and Research Coordinator will develop and coordinate youth-led focus groups to collect data, and will coordinate the analysis of the data to form reports and other tools to advocate for systemic changes in education equity. The Data and Research Coordinator will work with youth Data Fellows to pilot youth-led research, oversee #DegreesNYC’s fellowships, work with institutional researchers, and push advocacy efforts forward within the organization. The Data and Research Coordinator also has the opportunity to support the organization’s fundraising and grant proposals to help increase the size and continuance of youth leadership within the organization.

 

Purpose of Position: The Data and Research Coordinator sets the vision and direction for the youth-led data collection efforts of #DegreesNYC, a core pillar of the organization, by getting direct input from the Data Fellows and from NYC students participating in research through the expansion of the Data Fellowship. Reporting to the both the Director and Deputy Director of #DegreesNYC, the Data and Research Coordinator directly recruits students to lead and participate in focus groups, and coordinates data analysis. This includes building relationships with organizations and groups within NYC to assist with data collection and analysis. The Data and Research Coordinator presents the data analysis and assists with authoring the annual Data Reports, which are used to create data-informed and youth-led advocacy. Key aspects of the job include setting the vision and direction of the Data Fellowship, building the capacity of these and overseeing its communications, events and advocacy efforts, supporting the Director of #DegreesNYC with fundraising and building a data-informed culture, integrating youth leadership throughout #DegreesNYC and supporting the data fellows, mentees, and members to be the best they can be. The Data and Research Coordinator engages in the field locally and nationally, as well as the larger Goddard Riverside community, participating in Advocacy Meetings and other Goddard-wide communities and events.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 35 hours/week

 

Salary Range: $47,500 -$57,000

Roles, Responsibilities, and Essential Duties

  • Set the vision and direction for Data Fellowship and Youth-Professional Mentorship
  • Expand the Data Fellowship and youth-led research initiatives within #DegreesNYC
  • Train and supervise Data Fellows
  • Work closely with Data Co-op to create mentorship opportunities between research professionals and Data Fellows
  • Research current political landscape pertaining to education and position advocacy efforts according to relevance and input from young people
  • Provide leadership for youth advocacy responses to inequitable education systems
  • Lead trainings on youth-led research to target key issues affecting students and present information and findings to key stakeholders on a city-wide level and to the organizations work groups
  • Actively participate in the #DegreesNYC Steering Committee and ensure organization includes youth voice
  • Oversee event planning and follow-up pertaining to the Data Fellowship and Mentorship
  • Oversee the building of relationships with other youth organizations and advocacy organizations on a local and state level in the context of research efforts
  • Participate on #DegreesNYC Task Forces, Work Groups and Committees as needed
  • Coordinate #DegreesNYC data work group
  • Participate in and support partners’ events and advocacy efforts
  • Co-author annual Data Reports with young people through the Data Fellowship
  • Train Data Fellows to conduct youth-led research, analysis, and publishing with support from research partners and the I and J Department
  • Support a safe environment that promotes productive, healthy development for #DegreesNYC participants and staff and promote skill building and professional development
  • Support an environment that promotes collaborative relationships between Options and #DegreesNYC*, and between #DegreesNYC and Goddard Riverside as a whole
  • Actively represent #DegreesNYC in the field, including serving on outside committees, presenting at conferences, and participating in lobbying efforts

 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

  • Master’s preferred in a related or relevant field (education, social work, applied mathematics, public policy); Graduate students welcome to apply
  • Prior applied experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, Dynamics, or similar)
  • Experience with SQL reporting and/or scripting
  • Experience with survey methodology and collection tools
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrate mastery of research protocol and data analysis
  • Demonstrated commitment to education equity
  • Ability to effectively partner with others to ensure the Data and Research team is meeting the needs of the organization
  • Commitment to collective impact, youth voice and leadership, and data-informed approaches
  • Demonstrated facilitation and convening experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth development principles, especially youth leadership
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Awareness of ethical issues in research on human subjects
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure

 

Computer Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and database applications
  • Expertise in a common statistical or data science tool (e.g., R, Python)
  • Demonstrable experience using dashboarding software (PowerBI, Tableau, or similar)
  • Google Suite applications a plus
