Position Summary / Scope of Responsibility:

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nations largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Under the direction/supervision of the Board of Directors, CEO, and physicians, performs a variety of duties in support of clinical operations of patient care oversight. Provide guidance and leadership to Physicians and patient care staff, maintaining workflow and company standards. Function as an Executive handling complex issues and problems, offering suggestions, information, benchmarking, and leadership to effect change and improvement in day-to-day operations as well as big picture improvements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the achievement of excellence in health care to fulfill the mission of the Corporation
  • Exhibits strong customer service and communication skills in daily interaction with the public, patients, staff, and physicians in the performance of job duties.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to; Patient Care Specialists (PCS aka medical secretaries), Surgical Scheduling team, Customer Service Representatives (CSR aka medical assistants), Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Techs, and Radiology Techs. Distribution of work assignments, monitoring accuracy and performance of completed work, participation in annual performance appraisals
  • Functions as a senior staff member handling both routine and complex issues and problems. Counsel patients with regards to more complex inquires, treatment options, and payment concerns.
  • Serve as Division Safety Officer and Compliance Manager. Attending meetings and participating in initiatives as necessary
  • Assures team is following policies and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively, professionally, and compassionately with patients, Physician, staff, as well as individuals from hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, insurance companies and professional associations, etc.
  • Uphold the highest stand of internal and external customer service. Setting a high standard
  • Communicate effectively with CEO regarding position performance including potential problems or improvements opportunities
  • Works effectively as a team member, offering support, making suggestions, accepting change and handling stress in an appropriate manner. May work in varied clinic or back-end assignments as required by business and operations considerations.
  • Monitor accuracy of records and assists of same, as required. Assures that information provided to patients and staff are as accurate and current as possible
  • Ability to perform and/or understand all duties of patient care service duties
  • Positively communicate and support ongoing Group growth and changes.
  • Reports all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Participates in Department's Performance Improvement activities.
  • Serves productively and/or participates on committees and/or in staff meetings.
  • Participates on staff development, educational activities, and training programs.
  • Participates in orientation programs.
  • Participates in data collection.
  • Follows all Federal and State guidelines in accordance with patient privacy (HIPAA), OSHA, etc. as applicable.
  • All other duties as assigned


Reporting Relationships:

The Clinical Director reports directly to the CEO and Board of Directors.



Requirements, Education and Experience:

  1. Candidate should have two (2) years of fulltime college credits
  2. 3+ years management experience required. Preferably in an healthcare setting.
  3. Thorough knowledge of electronic medical records, practice management software, medical accounts receivable, billing and collection techniques, managed care, and coding and insurance carrier rules and regulations.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  5. Experience collaborating across multiple functions.
  6. Experience innovating in a fast-growing work environment and dealing with ambiguity.

Physical Demands:

  1. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.
  2. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when performing desk duties.
  3. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
  4. Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.
  5. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  6. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
