Summary
The Dishwasher and Prep Cook works in our high-volume, high-quality catering kitchen. They are responsible for cleaning dishes and equipment, cleaning foods, chopping and portioning while keeping a sanitized work area. Following proper food safety guidelines is a priority. This is an excellent position for someone interested in gaining experience with food practices, preparation and cooking techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen preferred.
Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)
- Wash all wares including pots, plans, flatware, and glasses, by hand or using dishwasher.
- Correctly place and store clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in assigned storage areas.
- Stock serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and other assigned areas with necessary dishes and utensils.
- May assist in cleaning and preparing various foods for cooking and/or serving, as directed.
- Ensures work areas remain safe, clean, and orderly, adhering to all company, local, and state guidelines regarding health, safety, and sanitation.
- Assist kitchen staff with cleaning, chopping and portioning food.
- Assist with plating meals as necessary.
- Assist Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef with additional production as needed.
- Report all maintenance problems or other issues to the supervisor as they occur.
- Follow accurate food handling guidelines, sanitation, health, and safety protocols
Schedule
This position is part time, averaging 28hrs or less per week. The schedule is based on DECC event needs. There will be day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week and may include some holidays. Hours scheduled are based on the events scheduled at the DECC in each given month. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week. A definite end time cannot always be scheduled due to the nature of events, but an estimated time will be provided.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you will frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud (industrial kitchen equipment).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, you are required to stand and walk, use your hands and arms, talk and hear, and taste or smell. Vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. You must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting and pushing carts. There can be long stretches of standing in place.
Uniform
Shirts are provided by the DECC, employee provides black pants or jeans (without stains or holes), and sneakers are acceptable. Skid-proof shoes preferred.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Successful completion of reference checks
- Successful completion of a background check
- Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.
At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.
The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
