Job summary
The Commissary Attendant is a pivotal position in our concession’s operations. This position is responsible for the stocking of the concession stands from the commissary during sporting events, concerts, conventions, arts and entertainment, and many more events. In addition, they will use exceptional customer service skills and take orders, serve customers their food and beverage orders, and process payments using the point-of-sale system. The position is scheduled during sporting events, concerts, conventions, arts and entertainment, etc.

Preferred Education and Experience
- A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the food service industry.
- A minimum of one year of point of sale and cash handling experience.
- Experience using a point-of-sale system.
- Food Service experience.
Essential Functions

- Serve customers from a clean and well-stocked concession stand.
- Be familiar with and able to discuss with customers the entire concessions menu and prices.
- Itemize totals for service using the point-of-sale system and process payments.
- Prepare food items such as popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, beverages and other concession stand items.
- Stock and replenish condiments.
- Work as a team to complete duties, for example, opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the concession stand and follow all safety and sanitation procedures and policies.
- Perform opening and closing duties, and required projects as directed by a supervisor.
- Perform stocking duties in the concession stands and commissary before and during events.
- Assist with maintaining all equipment and products in a neat, clean, and orderly manner, following appropriate procedures.
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation protocols.
- Work productively and positively in a team-oriented environment.
- Attend all required employee meetings and trainings, virtually and in-person.
Schedule
Shifts vary according to the event schedule and are mainly afternoons, evenings and/or weekend shifts, and may include some holidays. Availability for UMD Men’s Hockey games is essential. This position will average 10-20 hours per week.
Uniform
The required dress may fluctuate based on the events within the DECC.
Casual/Sport/Concert Events - The DECC will provide shirts with the DECC logo. Employees must provide jeans and comfortable footwear.
Formal Events - Business professional attire will be the standard, but there can be fluctuation based on event themes and tone. The DECC will provide required uniforms, such as shirts, and the employee must provide appropriate pants, such as black pants.

Work Environment
The majority of work will be performed indoors; some events will be held outdoors in different seasons. Many of the work areas will fluctuate from moderate to loud noise levels. The temperature in the work areas can fluctuate from extremely hot and humid (80-90 degrees) to cold, such as outdoor winter weather in freezing temperatures.
Physical Demands
This position will require someone that is able to stand on their feet for many hours at a time, moving quickly to different places in the facility based on event needs. Often, multiple events are taking place at the same time, and there will be a lot of walking to the different event spaces. The employee will need to use their hands frequently, and be able to see, hear, and speak often. This position will require bending and maneuvering, and the ability to move and lift to 50 pounds at times.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Successful completion of reference checks.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.
At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.
The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
