DVAMI Prevention Summer Intern

TheTexas Council on Family Violenceis a statewide organization representing a network of domestic violence programs that provide direct services to victims and theirfamilies andserves as the voice of victims at the state level while working with local communities to create strategies to prevent family violence.

ThePrevention Summer Internposition is open to those looking to get experience working in a macro level setting on family violence prevention-based initiatives. This is a terrific opportunity for acollege, trade school, or high school student or a young person who is not currently enrolled in school. Applicants should have an interest in social justice, prevention, and working in the movement to end gender-based violence. The Prevention Internship program is a ten-week paid internship. This can be a fully remote (in Texas) working experience, so applicants from all regions of Texas are encouraged to apply. Interns will work 24 hours per week. Although schedules are flexible, a typical structure could bethree 8-hour days per week. Applicants must be able to begin by June 10th, 2024, at the latest.

This role is NOT supervised by an LMSW and may not fulfill a graduate-level social work internship’s requirement. Please check your program requirements before applying.

This role is NOT a direct service role. It will not involve much, if any, direct work with intimate partner survivors, their children, or people who use violence in their relationships.

II. Priority Functions/Accountabilities:

  • During the first week of the internship program, thePreventionSummer Intern will learn about the movement to end gender-based violence and the specific role of TCFV.These trainings will be remote, so applicants should have the ability to engage in a remote internship.This will be the orientation phase of the internship.
  • The Prevention Summer Intern will assist the Prevention Team in planning events for and developing materials to be used during Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (October) and Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month (February), including but not limited to informing and developing social media content.
  • ThePrevention Summer Intern willserve asasupportive staff memberon the Prevention team. The Prevention Summer Internwillsupport by helping with a variety of logistical needs, such as: creating marketing graphics on Canva or other design platform, creating registration pages on Zoom and Coalition Manager, support Prevention events in AV support on Zoom, communicating with diverse stakeholders, and a variety of other supports.
  • The Prevention Summer Intern will work with the Prevention teamtodevelop and disseminate manuals and frequently asked questions documents to family violence organizations throughout Texas. These documents will cover topics such as youth engagement and fostering relationships with community stakeholders.

IV. Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to read, write, and converse in English.
  • This can be a remote* position, meaning you may reside in your community and connect with TCFV virtually.
  • If working remotely, occasional travel to TCFV offices in Austin, TX may be required.Any travel expenses will be billed to TCFV.
  • If residing in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, or Williamson Counties, interns may choose a hybrid work environment. Reliable transportation to and from TCFV office in Austin, TX during their internship schedule will be required if this option is chosen.Mileage to and from the office on in-office days is not eligible for reimbursement.
  • Requires occasional movement of objects up to 25 pounds, with or without accommodations.
  • Must have access to a secure internet connection for the duration of theeight-weekinternship.TCFV will provide a work computer and necessary equipment/software toperform the functions of the position.

*TCFV is not an interstate employer. All remote employees must reside in Texas.

Prevention Internship Program

Program Overview

Mission:to promote and support the leadership of young adults interested in preventing domestic violence by providing them with an educational opportunity to work alongside professionals in the field, share their expertise and knowledge, and assist in their professional growth.The Prevention Summer Internpositionwill allow the intern toapply specialized skills related to logistical organization in a social justice framework.

Program Overview

Prevention Summer Internships are 10-week paid internships that invite individuals to learn about the movement to end gender-based violence and TCFV's state-level work to end domestic violence through prevention, policy, and support to service providers and to utilize their skills in event planning and logistical organization to support this mission.

Objectives

  • To provide experiential learning opportunities for interested persons.
  • To invite individuals to become involved in the movement to end gender-based violence.
  • To provide in-depth practice opportunities in state-level advocacy work.
  • To provide professional support and guidance for interns.
  • To develop working relationships between TCFV staff and diverse communities.

Program set-up

  • Week 1 Introductions to the program, DV movement, TCFV's work; work with Prevention Teamto establish a scope of work.
  • Weeks 2-9Stakeholder engagement; program/campaign/document development; writing and editing
  • Week 10 Finalize projects, evaluation, & closing

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Reside in Texas
  • Be capable of a remote working structure
  • Have a reliable internet connection
  • Communicate effectively through virtual platforms
  • Possess graphic design and organizational skills
  • Have an interest in social justice, advocacy,anddomestic violence prevention
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be able to start by June 10th, 2024 and complete the internship by August 16th, 2024, at the latest. Options to start and end earlier are available.

Other considerations

  • Salary:$15 per hour
  • 30 hours per week
  • Hours are flexible; however, a successful candidate must be able to regularly connect with TCFV staff during typical business hours (M-F 8am-6pm Central time)
  • Family members of TCFV employees, board members, and collaborative partners will be considered.
  • TCFV will provide the necessary equipment needed for internship.
  • TCFV will not explicitly offer schoolcredit butwill consider working with the applicant's campus officials to establish school credit when possible.
  • Prevention Summer Internships are not supervised by an LMSW and may not qualify for graduate-level social work internship credit.
