Description

The Atlantic Council seeks a curious, engaging, internationally experienced self-starter with proven reporting, writing, editing, research, organizational, and social media skills to serve as Research Assistant to our President and CEO. German-speaking and writing fluency is a plus.

In close coordination with the President and CEO, the Research Assistant will primarily coordinate and lead the production of Inflection Points, the President and CEO’s weekly newsletter examining the defining geopolitical issues facing the United States and our global community of allies. Book research experience would also be helpful for ongoing special projects, drawing from history.

The ideal candidate will exhibit an exceptional level of research ability, including the capacity to synthesize complex global political and economic debates, drawing on a wide range of domestic and international sources. Beyond this, a successful candidate will also coordinate top-tier media appearances, oversee social media management, thought leadership, and public speaking engagements on behalf of the President and CEO.

Journalism training and experience are highly desired, as the position requires writing and editing against tight deadlines with meticulous attention to accuracy, clarity, and grammar. 

The position requires excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Moreover, the successful candidate will be a highly capable self-starter with a demonstrated aptitude for analytical thinking, exceptional writing, effective editing, and communication skills. They must also be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while managing multiple projects as a core member of a collaborative, solutions-oriented, and high-impact Executive Office team.

The Executive Office seeks candidates who have international experience and are comfortable in a global working environment. Some evenings and weekend hours will be required.

 

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Day-to-day coordination and management of Inflection Points, a widely distributed weekly newsletter, including daily news article curation, theme development, draft production, and coordinating the final email product;
  • Conduct research for book projects, speaking engagements, writing projects, and special projects as assigned into complete and quickly digestible format;
  • Oversee the President and CEO’s social media engagement and thought leadership while tracking key metrics and data to develop a more streamlined and strengthened online presence;
  • Other research and administrative duties, as necessary.
Knowledge and Qualifications Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in journalism, international relations, business, or related fields;
  • Minimum of two years of editorial experience with significant engagement and experience on digital and social media platforms;
  • Ability to take on research assignments, and to write and edit quickly and clearly, with minimal supervision, and on deadline;
  • Positive, flexible, get-it-done attitude and ability to multitask in an often-changing environment, with exceptional attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and within teams across the organization; 
  • Technical skills in social media, HTML and web expertise, layout design, basic data management and analysis;
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings or weekends, as necessary;
  • International experience required; 
  • Non-English language fluency, particularly German, helpful.
