Job Purpose: Manage and provide operational oversight of the training programs for animals owned by the public. Position includes personnel and fiscal management.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Functions:

  • Train dogs individually and in group settings with owners using positive reinforcement
  • Work independently and manage your own time, schedule, and clients
  • Maintain organized record keeping and detailed reporting
  • Using Applied Behavior Analysis to modify animal behavior
  • Maintain client communications through phone and email
  • Create content for social media (Capture mobile images & video during classes, sessions & events)
  • Actively participate in the creation of new classes, workshops and programs
  • Be a dependable and collaborative team player
  • Recommend appropriate retail products to enhance training (harnesses, treats, chews, etc.)

Nonessential Functions:

  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma plus one year additional job related experience.

Licensure or Certification:

  • Completion of CCPDT’s examinations with certification ( CPDT-KA , CPDT-KSA ,CBCC-KA ) preferred or other training certification (Animal Behavior College, Karen Pryor Academy, etc).
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of canine behavior and body language
  • Experience working with fearful or reactive dogs 
  • Must be available to work Saturdays and Evenings

  • Advanced platform/presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and delivery.
  • Experience working with volunteers and volunteer committees.
  • Ability to observe and evaluate animal communication, behavior, behavior change and conditions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of humane and safe methods of care, handling, and restraint of animals.
  • Possess a genuine concern for all animals and their welfare.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and serve as an effective liaison with departments, the public and community partners.
  • Ability to function in a highly emotional environment, rapidly changing and detail oriented environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong management skills including ability to achieve results through others.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Pet Point.
  • Ability to operate computer, printer, copier, telephone, fax machine and smartphone.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • Walking and prolonged standing.
  • Stooping, kneeling, bending and crouching.
  • Carrying, pushing and/or pulling.
  • Occasional exposure to high noise levels, such as in dog kennels.
  • Occasional exposure to animal feces and potential for scratches and bites.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Availability to travel regularly throughout the Tampa Bay Area.
  • Activities require the handling and transporting of SPCA pets.

Other:

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass required background and driving checks.
